Onuachu Wins Danish Cup As Midtjylland Pip Broendby On Penalties In Final

Super Eagles striker, Paul Onuachu lifted his maiden Danish Cup trophy on Friday when FC Midtjylland beat Broendby 4-3 on penalties after the final had ended 1-1 in regulation time, Completesports.com reports.

The gangling forward was booked for diving on 31 minutes after throwing himself to the ground, attempting to win a free-kick which the referee, however, did not fall for.

Onuachu also failed in his bid to increase his tally in this season’s competition from two having netted a brace in his club’s 4-0 semi-final destruction of OB in April.

The 24-year-old prolific goal-scorer was replaced by Artem Dovbyk in a tactical substitution in the 100th minute of the final encounter.

Onuachi will now focus on working hard to make Nigeria’s final 23-man squad to the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt. Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr included the striker in his 25-man provisional squad for final preparation for the tournament.

The striker warmed himself into the hearts of Super Eagles’ handlers and Nigeria fans with a superlative performance and an exciting goal when the team pipped the Pharaohs of Egypt 1-0 in an international friendly match at the Stephen Keshi Stadium Asaba.
