Onyekuru: Ikpeba Is Prince Of Monaco, a Legend; Will Make My Own History

Henry Onyekuru has spoken of his resolve to live his own dream and create his own identity at AS Monaco instead of being likened to Victor Ikpeba whose huge legacy at the French Ligue 1 side earned him the tag ‘Prince of Monaco,” Completesports.com reports.

Onyekuru completed a permanent switch to Monaco from Everton and signed a five-year contract with the Principality Club, becoming the second Nigerian to play for the club.

Asmonacom.com reports that the Nigeria international started training with the club on Tuesday and demonstrated his technique and speed during offensive exercises, ‘during which he put the goalkeepers to the test’.

“Beyond the field, the Nigeria international has been able to make his marks in a Training Centre in full transformation, but especially in a group that has reserved a warm welcome,” the club’s website reported.

The Onitsha, Anambra State born winger insists his move to Monaco was a dream come true after initial series of hiccups.

“It’s all about creating my own history and legacy,” Onyekuru said.

“Ikpeba is obviously a legend and a player we all looked up to idolize while growing up.

“He was great player and loved so much here at Monaco during his time.

“That was reason he was named ‘Prince of Monaco’.

“That was his history and legacy. I am here to create my own history and legacy”.

Onyekuru could make his Ligue 1 debut when AS Monaco visit Metz on Saturday.
