Asisat Oshoala has stressed that the Super Falcons cannot afford to miss out on qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
Nigeria missed the opportunity to secure automatic qualification for Brazil 2027 following a 1-0 defeat to the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon in the quarter-finals of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
Justine Madugu’s side must now navigate a more difficult route to the global showpiece, beginning with Thursday’s play-in clash against Banyana Banyana of South Africa.
The encounter is scheduled to take place at the Moulay Rachid Stadium in Casablanca, with kick-off set for 9pm Nigerian time.

Oshoala Rallies Teammates
The Super Eagles also failed to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, and Oshoala believes the Super Falcons must avoid adding to the disappointment of Nigerian football fans by missing out on the women’s tournament.
The experienced striker emphasised the importance of securing qualification, and urged Nigerians to continue supporting the team as they battle for a place at Brazil 2027.
“The only thing I can say right now is we need their support. The World Cup ticket is at stake, so this is the time when we really need everyone to support the team,” Oshoala was quoted by ESPN.
“We already know the Super Eagles didn’t qualify so we know what is at stake and we know how Nigerians feel about this. We are sorry we lost this one, but the next game we will put in more effort and try to win the game.”
