Osimhen Faces Huge Expectations As Napoli Clash With Parma In Serie A Opener Today

Victor Osimhen is facing huge expectations as the Serie A season kicks off with the Nigerian striker expected to deliver by scoring plenty of goals in his maiden campaign at Napoli.

A lot has been said about Osimhen’s big-money move to Napoli from Ligue 1 side, Lille and he has been in great form in pre-season with a hat-trick against Teramo particularly noteworthy.

The 21-year-old is now very much set to make his Serie A debut on Sunday when Gli Azzurri take a trip to the Stadio Ennio Tardini to trade tackles with Parma with three points on offer.

In his last pre-season game which was his third, though, Osimhen fired blanks but registered an assist for Napoli which walloped Italian Serie B club, Pescara 4-0 at the Stadio San Paolo.

So far, so good in three pre-season appearances, Osimhen who recently joined Napoli from Lille in this very summer’s transfer window netted six goals and contributed two other assists.

The Super Eagles striker scored hat-tricks in his first two games and Osimhen had netted 13 goals in 27 appearances in the Ligue 1 and was voted Lille’s Player of the Season last term.

With the Edo State-born striker having shone at both Sporting Charleroi of Belgium and Lille where he scored plenty goals in the last two seasons, he is facing huge expectations at Napoli.

Osimhen starts from the bench as Mertens leads an attack which also have Lozano and Insigne.

  • Ahhhh disappointed , woke up 6:30am to see VO but realize he started from the Bench.

The difference this boy has made since coming to the pitch in the last 5 minutes is immense.  His presence led to the first goal and his pace
Is already troubling parma plus his link up play has been exceptional!  As I was typing his cheeky backheel pass led to a shot that hit the post.  The commentator aptly dunned him the creator of chaos!

This match has gone from a boring encounter to a cracking one in the 8 minutes since Osihmen came on and everything revolves around him

I have to say that osimen’s impact has been immediate. His tireless running is tormenting the Parma defense. His touches are top notch to be honest. As my broda above said, he has changed the game from a boring 1st half to a more entertaining game. Napoli are now 2 up as I type. This boy will do wonders but I just hope too much pressure is not placed on him based on his price tag. There will be periods where loss of form (God forbid) might affect his game, people should stick with him and not run to judgment. My opinion.

Its fair to say Osihmen was man of the match in 30 minutes on the pitch.  I just hope jealousy doesn’t creep in from his teammates especially Lozano.  Good first impression
