Osimhen scored only once in that match while simy scored twice. On what basis is Osimhen then selected ahead of Simy Nwankwo for the team of the week. I see football politics been played out here.

    • Once again I will say Football has levels, The stats are based on movement, key passes chances created and so forth not just the goals. Osimhen should have had at least 2 ASSISTS in that game had his team mates capitalized. Once again i will say football has levels and there is a reason Osimhen is worth 94mil euros.

Politics between who and who? My brother, this fact is put forward by football experts and those who know their right and left in football, I mean those who have studied football and their nitty gritty.Aside, the critarium for picking in the team of the week is by your over all contribution to your team and not just scoring goals as a striker.

Did you see how that Osimhen will fall back to assist the defence or how he initiated the attack. He was brought down in vital areas several times also won tackles and broke play.

There is absolutely no need to make this kind of comparison between 2 very illustrious Nigerian footballers.I saw the match Nwankwo was fantastic in fact I concluded that he’s one of Nigeria best in Europe.Osimhen was great too aside from the goal he was every where making runs and creating spaces for his team mate to score goals.

Haven said that,it must be stated that Not every good Nigeria footballer will play in se at the same time, time and season will give them their chance.Aside that,is any of Osimhen,Kele and Paul invited recently for the striking possition deserving of their place ?My answer is yes.Nwankwo will get his chance in due time, only that he should remain consistent.

Let’s avoid the statement that will break us apart .

Story… They say top 5 league, Simmy gatecrash that one still no invite, they say you must be scoring… Simmy don knack 15,yet no invite… they say the striker must wait his time, Simmy has been waiting for 3years now… he has been top scorer at Seire B… last season 20goals, this season I am sure he will hit 20 Serie A goals again… the guy is just a silent achiever… they are just treating him like the case of Nwaekeme at Trabzonspor… there is something secretly going on in players selection about Super Eagles that the SE fans are not privy too… all I can say is that in the case of Simmy he has shown that he has all it takes… have even performed better than Osimhen hands down this season but he is not one of the annointed… he is 28yrs,some keep saying he will get his hance… all that is story, is it when he has retired that he will get his chance? He is one guy that has never been started in a competitive Super Eagles match… this was a guy who was given just one game and he impressed to gatecrash last world cup… They are playing politics with player invitation. I hope it does not come back to haunt the team? Imagine having a Simmy and Rohr went back talking about Ighalo recently… MUSA is a nonplaying captain, he is not in my 23man list… yet baba lied and played him. They come to Africa and engage in sports politics they cannot dare in their home country. Invite players based purely on performance activity and form… If we were England, Danny Welbeck will still be starting, Theo Walcott will still be starting, Dele Alli will still be starting, even Rashford and Greenwood were left out of English squad recently… Rohr is only plating safe to save his job, he knows power brokers can squeeze the anvil on him and he is just playing to such interest to be in their good books… We are not in 1990 when we had few good players and some who were unattached often were allowed to teamup in camp. It has to be professionalism at all times otherwise disaffection will soon cause serious rift among SE players… any professional who cannot get his act together should not be involved until they have sorted themselves out… PERIOD!

      @ Jimmyball

      Just a few question;
Have you heard of Patrick Bamford of Leeds united?
What about Kelvin Volland of Monaco?

These two are good players. Scoring and providing assists for their respective clubs but are ignored by the national team of England and Germany.
Not because they aren’t good. But there are only a few number that can be called up. Especially when their specific positions are amassed with talents. Do we now accuse Southgate and Leow of playing politics?!
Even Muller and Boateng have been left out of the German national team not because they aren’t performing but because every coach has his preference. Whether such succeeds or not is another story.
Recently,Rashford was left out because he was injured and was just recovering. Greenwood was left out because he simply has better people in his position. Remember, he is still be punished for his juvenile act while on national duty. Foden (who was punished as well with Greenwood) has been forgiven and called back because he is simply the best at his position in this moment in time. He simply can’t be overlooked like Mason.

So the fact Simy and Nwakeame is scoring in their clubsides, doesn’t necessitate an invitation. A coach always have his preference. Rohr simply prefers Osimhen,Iheanacho and Onuachu.and for good reason as well. It takes nothing of the talent of the duo. They are good. But only a few can be called up.we should respect that decision. If Rohr fails by not inviting both;then he bears his cross. But that is not the case. Our attack is doing fine.

Furthermore,it is only those blinded by emotions that didn’t get to see why Rohr invited Musa;understandably so. I saw the rationality in his invitation and explained why some few weeks back. He simply wanted to help the captain find a club since Musa has been loyal to the team. It is way of Nigeria aiding a loyal servant. One that can still perform and has been with the team the whole nine yards.
For precedence sake,I find that wrong but on moral ground.I understand. It is nothing new in football.
Krychowiak was called up by the Polish national team when his short stay with Arsenal was terminated. Sanchez of Chile was called up to the team even when he wasnt seeing playing time at United. Marquez of Mexico was even taking to the Gold cup when he was changing clubs being unattached at that moment. Not forgetting Roger Milla at Italian 90 and USA 94.
What all these men have in common is their loyalty for their national team. They served their country so well and their country decided to stand by them at a time they needed help. Especially when they can still perform.

Don’t get me wrong. I don’t appreciate the fact Rohr went down that road and invited Musa. For precedence sake. It is wrong. But I wouldn’t go about crying blue murder like it has a political undertone. It simply doesn’t.

      • You are correct me hush. Many of them don’t understand that a lot goes into making a team than just the football being played in the pitch. Almost all the players in the team are extremely loyal to musa. Can you see how eking honorably ran to the lines to give him the hand band.

The captain that has great influence in a team should be invited. It’s not a sin. He is the coach and he understands the inside issues that help his team. He wouldn’t have played musa but because we were comfortable with our lead, he honoured him by bringing him in.

Common musa was nit part of the 23. He got an honorary invitation and I believe even the devil will not argue with the fact that musa deserves it.

There was a time in his career he was playing for the under 29 under 23 and super eagles at the same time. He is a legend and no honor is too much for him.

I believe no right thinking people should still be arguing or complaining over musa invitation at this stage.

    • Mr. Nice 3 years ago

Obviously you don’t understand modern day football, maybe the type of football you understand is that of Nigeria league where a club changes almost all the players & after a season and constantly involve in building that the team that’s why they don’t amount to anything. In modern football, all the coach tries to do is build a team and constantly strengthens the team chemistry and understanding that’s why most European clubs signs players for 2,3 or 5 years just to integrate such player into the team system, players can be taken on loan when key members of the club is injured or out of form. Now in the case of national teams the coach doesn’t have the luxury of time to build the team chemistry and you expect him to be inviting new players everything we have a match, if you don’t understand how football is managed in this modern kindly keep quiet and let those who understand it educate you better so that you don’t continue to embarrass yourself in public forum and arrogantly insist on being right.

    • My friend you are wrong bwirh your assertions. Simy was invited and he has been given his chances. He failed to pick it then. Same with onuachu. Remember that onuachu was initially on the standby list.

You see I believe rohr will still give him a chance. He doesn’t want to obstruct the system that’s developing in the super eagles already. A good coach does that.

It’s only a mad man that will invite simy and leave out oshimen. Oshimen is delivering for us already. Simy will get his chance.

We should stop this attitude if crying politics and religion anytime we feel something is wrong. What you think may not what is the real situation.

Nigerians need to stop this dirty attitude. The vivid situation and the non availability if many open windows for friendlies is not helping matters.

If you want to be sincere you will never pick simy over oshimen for any competition.

  • JimmyBall 3 years ago

@Mr Hush and @Mr Nice… I am trying to make myself see reasons with both of your views but as someone who knows what it is when you are not being appreciated in competitive team sports, I am not buying your views at all. Having Musa called up amounts to favoritism period. A captain is suppose to lead by example and not enjoy undue previlege because of a position that any other player can also easily hold any day. Musa is supposed to have opted not to play… If Rohr feels his mandate is to help players find club then maybe he should do more to help the talents like Iwuala still young in the NPFL… Speaking from a former footballer standpoint, that is clear double standards… Just like Musa, we know Iheanacho’s quality has never been in doubt, but when Iheanacho was not playing at Leicester, was he helped with undue invitations to Super Eagles by Rohr? It was even Rohr who criticized him the most as being unprofessional or lacking discipline, what that means we are yet to understand… He was dropped from AFCON 2019 roaster. When Musa was going to a low league like Saudi Arabia, why did Rohr not spell it that he may loose his place in SE? Musa is a winger primarily, does he want to play ahead of Kalu, Chukwueze, Moses Simon or Iwobi as of today? See… Let’s stop with the sentiments already. Is Musa the only loyal player over the years? His quality is never in doubt… we all know, but he has to get busy anyhow. Even if he signs a short-term contract with any NPFL team… that will go heavily positive for his PR and exemplary posture and will endear him to Nigerians the most. He is not bigger than our NPFL where at one time the legendary Rashidi Yekini came back to and played some games towards the end of his active ball-playing career. Musa cannot be unattached getting callups rather unmeritted and the likes of Atiemwen, Olayinka and Simmy are being ignored. No matter the spin put on it… It’s gross unpressionalism on the part of Rohr who keeps shouting there won’t be any new invites for all the world cup qualifiers… no national team is cast on permanently-select few who just retire before others more than deserving get a look-in… We all know young players need a certain percentage of appearance to attract interest and deals from clubs like in the premier league… Musa must not be called up even though he is Batistuta Zidane Overmars if he does not get active anywhere home or abroad! Our attitude as a people in matters professional is why Nigeria is dead and buried in all facets of life as it is today… Sentiments and bigoted thinking!

    • Jimmyball but musa was not part of the 23. I believe that explanation should put to rest any case or politics or whatever. If he was not invited nobody else will be invited as the 24 the player. It was an honorary invitation.

In 1982 paolo Rossi just left the prison but the coach if the italian team invited him. He was the highest goal scorer in that workd cup.

In 1988, keshi played two matches for us. For both marches he always arrived some few hours before the match and the coach always hand him a first eleven shirt.

You see a lot goes into making a team than what is in the pitch. That is probably what you don’t know my brother. Leave the coach and let him do his work. He knows what is happening you don’t know. He has a right to do what he feels is right for his team.

  • Emmanuel 3 years ago

@Jimmyball,you really need an understanding of how things work.As Mr.Hush and Nice said not all great player will find their way into their National team, not because they are not good but again for football reasons.

Now,I have spoken on this topic before and will do again.Coaches have criteria for inviting players to their teams either in club or national teams.Such criteria includes but not limited to form, team chemistry and or philosophy, dedication and attitude.

The form of every player will usually be the criteria to invite such a player to a team. However, there are times a player will not be invited inspite of their good form. Coaches want loyal, dedicated and passionate players in their teams. Many coaches avoided working with Ballotelli cos of his attitude, same can be said about Eric Cantona of France, you remember the kung fu kick against a Crystal palace fan which led to his 8month ban by FA and also resulted in his exclusion from the France 98 team. But Cantona was good but by the time he returned from the 8months ban Zedane had already taken his place. But for his temperance he would have been a world cup winner.

No coach will change a winning team. This is usually true of national teams.National team coaches don’t have time to blend,so want to keep a winning team together no matter what. The reason for the above is for team cohesion and strength.Except you are doing exceptionally well and better than those in your possition a national team coach will be loath at inviting another player into his team. The question that we all must ask is is Kelechi deserving a call up, yes he sure does.Kelechi has scored 7 goals in 3 MATCHES and even won player of the month award in a world class league like EPL.What about Paul Onuachu,he’s the highest goal scorer with 27goals in 30 matches in Belgium and one of the Highest goal scorers in Europe. Now Osimhen remains one of the best young talents in the world. We all know why he has not scored too many goals this season. He was out injured for 3months after which he contacted covid.Inspite of the above this guy Osimhe has not done badly.Aside that Osimhe is our strenght up front and the first name in that department for very obvious reasons which he has show by becoming the highest goal scorer for the entire Africa in the qualifies. That will not change except he gets injured.

In the present French team Gouroud is the main stay in the attack even though he is not a regular player in Chelsea team.Infact Gourod has been a bench warmer For as long as I know but yet makes the French team back to back. The reason Gouroud will keep making the Frnch team is cos of team chemistry and cohesion. He is also the focal point in the attack upon whom the attack is built. So the earlier we understand that Osimhen remains the most important man in attack the better.

We shouldn’t be having this discuss in the first place if some of us can appreciate this coach for once and stop blackmailing him.Not all the players will get their chance the same time. The 3attackers invited recently as analysed above are the best we have right now others will get their chance later.

Musa is our man, very dedicated and unassuming.Nothing, absolutely is too much to help him out of the present situation.Besides,Musa’s invitation did not disturbe any one.Musa is a winger and Nwakwo a striker so there was no distruption at all.The coach true to his word did not invite him as part of the competitive players.23 competitive players were invited and Musa merely an addition. He only got 4minutes of action against Lesotho after the match was well won.

The issue of politics can only come from very myopic minds, but after reading through this you should have a change of reasoning. Thanks all.

    • Mr. Nice 3 years ago

God bless you my brother, this is just primary football knowledge that someone who claim to have played the game has continued to fool himself in public forum, I remember prior to the 2012 world cup coach Onigbinde initially invited about 100 players in his list, without seeing the players physically the list miraculously reduced to about 40, less than a month or so to the world cup the coach still had over 35 players in camp and only released the final list close to deadline, someone like me knew he was going to fail and he did fail woefully, that’s the kind of coach someone like @Jimmyball wants for the super eagles so that instead of building a team & integrating team chemistry and philosophy he will be doing plus one minus two few weeks to a major competition, @Jimmyball and other wonderful ex-internations should know that football has evolved, 1980 Afcon football no be 2021 type of football Biko!

  • Mr Hush 3 years ago

    @Jimmyball

it is quite clear you don’t like the man Rohr. So no matter the explanation given to you ; you would never understand or see reason. And there lies the irony in your statement;”Sentiments and bigoted thinking”.

Firstly, I think to be a captain of a national team like Nigeria is earned. And whenever you earn that right to be called captain; you have earned some certain privilege. Privileges you deserve. Privileges you worked for through service and time. So Musa; deserve those privileges. He earned it.

To compare Musa’s situation to that of Iheanacho at the time is totally missing the mark. Iheanacho was simply not in form and lack the attitude, let alone being selected for a competition. And like I said;I never appreciated Rohr’s invitation of Musa but it is not far fetched for the reasons provided in my earlier piece.

So you want the coach to invite all to the camp? Every Nigerian scoring , playing should be invited? That’s unreasonable.
Like I said; every coach has his preference. It is his prerogative to invite whomever he deems fit to suit his plans. If such players fail. Then he bears the cross.

Yes. We as fans have our choices . We want certain players to be invited. But not everyone can be invited. There is only but limited space in a national team.

… on the Iwuala story. He is a new kid on the block. Let’s see how that turns out.hopefully good. After all,it is still Rohr that gave him the opportunity in the national team no matter how that came about. Rohr could have chosen not to play him. But he did. So Rohr deserves a bit of credit..

I do understand your position on Musa. But there is no underlying conspiracy. Not everything is political or whatever..

    • Prof. Tamuno Offiali 3 years ago

In as much asas ypu are one of thefew on this forum I love reading from, I beg to disagree on Musa’s involvement with Siera Leone.

The coach said he wasnt invited to play but to boost the morale of the invited players only to do a volte face and feauture him.

Not taking anything away from Musa…that was totally wrong and smirks of double speak by the gaffer. Full stop.

Musa is not the first loyal and dedicated player to dorn the Green White Green jersey.

I laugh when I read people compare his situation to that of Keshi. Keshi was playing for Molenbeek in Belgium during the 94 WC.

I cant remember any national team player of any serious football playing country in history who was unattached but invited to play a qualifier.

That was an unjustifiable action by Rohr.

@Jimmyball is absolutely right on this one.

      • Mr Hush 3 years ago

        @Prof Tamuno Offiali

        Appreciations.

I am in alignment with the fact that Musa shouldn’t have been invited for the games against Benin and Lesotho.
I stated the fact clearly when the list came out.
And I also stated it in my earlier piece today.
I stated the reason I find that invitation wrong. Simply because of precedence.
I believe everyone invited to the Super Eagles must be active and functional and must merit that invitation.
That I have stated boldly always.

The point I differ is the reason such invitation took place. I totally understand and see clearly why Rohr invited Musa.
        Which is quite understandable.

I also disagree on the fact that many think such invitation has a political undertone. That’s far from it.

      • JimmyBall 3 years ago

@Prof. Tamuno Offiali… Thank you. It surprises me how a spin is being put on the whole farce by respected members of this forum. Did we not win against Benin Republic which was more tense and difficult regarding the level of opposition without Musa and even played better in both halves overall than the Lesotho game? You see how the narrative is being switched to mean that I don’t like the coach? While that is not true, liking the coach or not liking him takes nothing away from the fact that he is giving a player undue and unmeritted favour amidst other players… It’s pure double standard and such can only happen in Nigeria. What stops Musa from signing with Enyimba who are in the continent and doing well for just six months to really keep fit and busy… We know his condition is a short phase… signing short term for a local club would have shown a very good professional example. People who are claiming football has moved from the era of 1980s to 2020s are the ones still going to apply 1980 politics used to call back the likes of Christian chukwu to play after retirement against Tunisia that we will eventually have to loose… Stephen Keshi exactly was inkured one time before USA 94 but was never unattached. Besides Nigeria was going into it’s 1st world cup in history, and one like Keshi has fought for that all through qualification, so the situation was different. Coach said someone won’t play and then make an aboutface and play him 3minutes after saying he is only a presence for boost… meanwhile going by merit Onuachu should have been on the main list based on form whether he has not scored in 50matches before then for Super Eagles. It’s providence that got him into the team again only to be one of the most outstanding at the end… You all supportive of Musa condition want to throw in sentiments where it is not justified… let Musa sign a short term contract with an NPFL side while his agents including the coach help him with connects for club abroad… we have to hold up to bat equally for everyone, not soften the ground for some… What about people who have played before like Ogbuke and Onazi and injured themselves why sweating for the Super Eagles on the pitch? With all morality, Musa should not be the one to use underserving favour being captain who is meant to lead by example and accept conditions that do not favour him even while still the captain in the interest of the team as a true professional… instead of him players like Abdullahi Shehu needed that match to begin to up their appearance percentages and stand a chance where such criterion is strong for deals like the English Championship or Premier League… We are not doing our work to find solid cover for Ndidi, when he cannot be available then we will be exposed and start asking SEMI Ajayi to go play defensive midfield and do an unconvincing static job! It’s easy to label me as one who does not want to yield ground for Musa situation… yes, he may have been our best player in some tournaments in the past, so was Amuneke, Finidi, Amokachi and Okocha, and we appreciate but sentiemnsts does not help his current situation… thlse who always say we should name examples, should tell us one serious nation where what Rohr did for Musa will be entertained?

Hehehehe…..wat club was Keshi and Oliha playing for when both were listed for 1994 Afcon…….? What club was ike shorunmu playing for when we played at 2002 Afcon…..?
Captain Ahmed Musa plays what is no more than a 4min novelty Vs Lesotho in a match truely well done and dusted and the coach has committed the gravest crime in world football….graver than unattached players being featured I major tournaments….LMAO. The height of hatred….LmAO.
Some bigots are just going rant….
.even if Rohr falls into a pool of water….they will still accuse him of raising dust….LmAO
But whether they like it or yes…clubless or clubfull…….AHMED MUSA will earn the just reward of his 100caps as a SE player and thus cement his place on the pantheon of the gods of Nigerian football. 15 goals, as many assists in 96 caps as a SE winger…… Legendary

        • JimmyBall 3 years ago

… Your opinion does not make double standard less than what it is. No argument regarding unprofessional practice here. Let him continue unattached and not find a club even in the NPFL.
#shiftgoalpost when it’s convenient. Lol… You got busted this time. Let the politics continue. Coach is now player marketing agent… Lol.

It’s is you who continue to mention top 5 league here as invitation criterion… They point you to Simmy Nwankwo, you choke, you say national team is not rehabilitation centre they ask why is Musa being given a rehabilitation platform then? , you choke and went back to Keshi and Oliha from 1990s… So now games against Lesotho is now novelty match… Continue shifting goal post. No one talked about sacking Rohr… accept that he lied with his aboutface period! From Musa is not on my 24man list, to he his is a nonplaying captain… finally to we are helping him look for a club and so needs to give him minutes. If you can shift invitation goalpost for one player, then just know that all your arguments about top 5 league comes to naughts and it is now clear all your preaching now stands for nothing but farce… You set standards and criteria you can’t uphold. We have now seen thorough all your analyses as just purely sentimental heap of rubbish! Sleepwell… Lol.

            Are you done….???
If only you were intelligent enough you would have noticed that up till our last match, priority for invitations to thenational teams has reamined skewed in favor of players from england , Spain, Italy,Dr and Germany b4 others….but still with preference for those in competitive leagues…LMAO. But your hatred has replaced your thinking faculty so you cant realize that and the fact that only 3 slots are available for CF position……not 7 slots……LMAO. I am sure you would likely invite 8Cfs and play them as wingbacks if you become the coach…..LMAO. Sorry ehn…..Rorh isn’t a fraud who is masquerading as an exfootballer…..LMAO. He knows better than to throw away his winning combination of the last 2 years for entirely new combinations for crucial competitive games. Some intelligent forumites have truely school you on the reason for that……so unfortunate.
Rohr invited 23 players for 2 games…..by the 2nd game about 3 pulled out…..A fit as fiddle Musa right there in camp and is drafted into the sqaud and goes on to get 4mins of noveltygametimeto coint towards his 100 caps and ethnic bigots and racists are crying blue murder…..LMAO.
Abeg make somebody give them basin make dem cry put….
            .LMAO.

Anyone who wants to know the true meanings of ridiculous should come read what these humiliated haters are complaining about here……LmAO.

I never knew the title of being a national coach means you are never allowed to change your mind.

I go buy icecreame tomorrow…… tomorrow reach…..I no feel like to buy ice-cream again….a national team coach has ZERO rights to do so…..
            .LMAO….how ridiculous……. LMAOOooooo

Enroute to the WC94, Eguavoen was unattached and he played all our matches at the WC. Even if Musa wasn’t invited the coach will still not have invited any player bcos the list is already a 23 man. Musa has been a loyal servant to the coach and to the nation. Remember, the coach was the one that advised him to leave Saudi Arabia to come to mainstream Europe if he want to be playing regularly with the team. Moreso, this is not the first time, it happens before the last wc when Musa was told to leave leicester to cska.
So if the coach deem it fit to give a 5 minutes of play to such a worthy captain in an inconsequential match. I don’t think that is too much. My personal opinion though.

        • Prof. Tamuno Offiali 3 years ago

Oga go get your facts right before coming here to spew rubbish balderdash.

Eguavoen was an active player with Kortricjk Fc. in the Belgian Jupiler league during the WC.

Moreover it can be excused if you take a loyal, long serving unattached player to a competition but not a qualifier where you need all your best legs.

Rohr can be excused if we had qualified and he decided to invite Musa for the Afcon. But to do that when we had crucial qualifiers smirks of stupidity.

No top football country (emphasis ‘TOP’) invites an inactive player to prosecute a qualifier. Rohr himself said so when the backlash was much owing to naming Musa initially.

For whatever reason or reasons, he should have stuck to that stance and cap say the local goalie or centre back!

For goodness sake is 4 minutes enough for any serious scout pr club to consider a player who’s been inactive for over 5 months???

A clubless player can be taken to AFCON and World cup but cannot play the last 4 minutes vs Lesotho with SE already 3 goals up and already qualified 2 matches b4…??? LMAO.

Someone is trying to justify Keshi and Oliha’s selection for 1994 AFCON, Shorunmu’s selection for 2002 AFCON and Eguekwe and Gabriel Rueben’s selections for 2013 AFCON…..LMAO

Why are you complaining about pipu coach invited, let me help you summarize what you are say ” GR is not a good coach” I know is hard for you to say cos he didn’t loose or draw any of the last two matches. Do you think if you make 23 man super eagles list here, everyone will agree with you, there is nothing you can do there will always be preference. Me as a person I can take Iheanacho to competition even dough he has ingeury, I will now tell you, you should go and kill yourself if you are not okay with it.

What are we even saying…..??? Was an Eguekwe who was down with a contagious disease like chiken pox not taken to Afcon…..??? Or was a Gabriel Reuben who couldn’t even jugg because his hamstrings were still torn not taken to AFCON…???…. LMAO.

It required just Sadiq Umar for Onuachu to start doing what he has never done successfully in a SE shirt……LMAO.

A practically useless player without a shot on target in almost 8 matches almost laid down his life on the pitch at the mention of then Sadiq Umar…..LMAO. Dont worry, we will add Moffi to the mix very soon and probably Simy too when its time to open camp for AFcON prepations…..let them all battle for a place behind Osimhen their boss.

That is how we will continue to deal with players who are not ready to be useful to us….LMAO.

They will tell us If it was them who preached to Rohr to invite Simy when he did the first time out……LmAO

Good job @ Mr Hush, @ Mr Nice, @ CMN and the rest who have taken their time to school that wannabe. Ever since when he named Olayinka and Samu as wingbacks to flank a 3 man central defence containing just 1 natural central defender, I just knew this one is just a faux……LMAO

  • OmoEsan 3 years ago

@Jimmyball, I’ve got just one scenario based question for you and I want you to give me your direct answer with reasons.

Question; You are the current coach of the SE and you’re about to draw up your 23 man list for AFCON qualifiers. In your list of twenty three, you have allocated three slots for center forwards.
    In your pool of centre forwards you have the following players to choose from;

    1. Taiwo Awoniyi
    2. Simmy Nwankwo
    3. Josh Maja
    4. Terem Moffi
    5. Paul Onuachu
    6. Peter Olayinka
    7. Kelechi Iheanacho
    8. Sadiq Umar
    9. Cyril Dessers
    10.Victor Osimhen.

Name the three players you will choose as your CFs from the above and give reasons why you will choose them ahead of others.

    Forumites await your answer.

  • Dr. Drey 3 years ago

Hehehehe, for sure, Olayinka is maning the left wing back position, Maja starts at right wing back and Onuachu partners Simy as box to box goalkeepers.
Don’t say I didn’t warn you against the shocker of you lives….. LMAO.

    • Mr. Nice 3 years ago

Hahahahaha……. And I just fell off my bed reading this, Dr. Drey there’s god ooo!!!

  • JimmyBall 3 years ago

@OmoEsan… thank you. I could have replied since last night but went to sleep early. Based on form and close semblance of what Nigerians know and will accept for power strikers… because Yekini remains the default standard… I will go for 3strikers as follows:

    1.Victor Osimhen (Based on ability
    & proven track records)

    2.Paul Onuachu (Based on form,
    proven goal history & high
    return ratio of plunder)

    3. Sadiq Umar (Based on ability,
    goals high return ratio &
    all round play)

Kelechi Iheanacho will always be named among attacking midfielders and not centre forwards even though I will play him behind an arrow head when I am adopting 2strikers in 3-5-2 or 4-4-2.

Based on how Peter Olayinka has performed for Slavia prague often occupying the left flank for his club frequently in plays adopting the 4-3-3 or 4-5-1, I Will for now put him and Moses Simon to go at each other on the left flank in a 3man forward in 4-3-3 or wide left midfield position in a 4-5-1 just like in his club… between him and Moses Simon, who starts will be a question of form, but I rate he Olayinka higher.

Now on Terem Moffi, Cyril Dessers, Simeon Nwankwo and Taiwo Awoniyi (presently nursing a muscular thigh injury). Terem has all the qualities and can hold his own as a dependable centre forward any day as he has shown in a modest club, he has age on his side so I will give him a further 2seasons and see how he makes a good strong case for himself and establish himself as a top 9 constant contender… we need him to show us belief in a further 2 seasons of European football and if he carries on as he has done… then he will compete with Osimhen, Onuachu and Sadiq for spot place purely based on seasonal and monthly form.

Simeon Nwankwo to me now appears properly experienced, matured and ready at the moment… he did it last season at Serie B and has plundered 15goals in Seire A this season, it’s only fair that as the only Nigerian with such numbers in all top 5 European league, he be considered in the mix, hardwork should be rewarded… I will throw him in the mix in world cup qualifiers should he sustain his form. A striker of Serie A calibre is never a joke…

Awoniyi is out injured now but is good quality, he is one on the outside looking in, Bundesliga is good for him and though before injury, his goals return had only been decent, but he embodied an enviable allround play with good aeriel ability… we are blessed to have one like him in the pool.

Cyril Dessers have great qualities and appears fast and strong, just like Awoniyi he is up there but has largely been overshadowed by Onuachu at club… I think it’s fair to say we can only begin to make fair and informed judgement on Dessers once Onuachu makes an upward leap to a more ambitious team in another league like Ligue 1, with heavy enquiries already making the rounds from the likes of Lyon.

That being said… Peter Olayinka goes in on the wings, Iheanacho will go into the roaster in a midfield spot.

When every other name mentioned above is performing at their optimum and free of injuries… subsequent future invites and Super Eagles squad place should be only on performance, monthly seasonal goal returns and form.

Nigeria has now matured in football like the very first nations like Belgium, Brazil, Argentina, Croatia, Netherlands, England and others that we must now only begin to adopt invitation templates and criteria used by these nations… he have a duty to give every reputable and optimum performing Nigerian player a fair chance…. Something that will be acceptable to all. If you want to be the main man, maintain your returns and improve your allround as well as teamplay. This is my response and take… One love!

    • Profjeff 3 years ago

Then your only fault with the coach is peter olayinka and you are even afraid to drop moses simon for him… Remember that even the olayinka was doing his wedding during the last international break. All i see is you scoring the coach excellent

    • @Jimmyball this is great analysis. This is better than blaming Rohr for nothing. I believe simy will have his chance again. He deserves it. Playing in italy and scoring for a modest club even against big teams is no mean feat.

      • Ikeben 3 years ago

The main problem he has with Rohr is simply Musa. If Rohr stops inviting Musa and replace him with Olayinka, then he Jimmy will become the biggest fan of the coach. That I know.

  • JimmyBall 3 years ago

A balanced team of 23 players will be 3goalies, 8defenders(4Fullbacks & 4CentralDefenders), 5midfielfers(AM,CM & DM) & 7Forwards(4wingers & 3CentreForwards)… If one is to make tight adjustments then you take 3CentralDefenders and 4Fullbacks and add one more slot for midfielders making 6midfielders…. Where problem will arise is when you have Lookman, Ejaria and Olise and you need a maximum of 6midfielders to choose, if we can cap-tie Olise, he should be one to start really considering after next worldcup in a No. 10 role… Our task will be to cap and tie him down to SE commitment now for life, and if he really moves to a big premiership side and make a strong case for himself at that level, then we can think of roastering him for Qatar 2022. We must understand that not all the talent can go in for a squad place now. I have said it before and will say it again, just like Iheanacho, lookman should go into the roaster in midfield and not wing position…. We can allow him compete chukwueze only when Samuel Kalu for injury reasons is not available. Iwobi, Iheanacho, Ndidi, Etebo, Ejaria, Lookman, Olise and Shehu should vie for midfield position… Olise from these list is one for an assured future… between Shehu and Etebo is where the painful choice of one over the other will be… If I have luxury, I will take both because in my opinion Shehu is a better defensive midfielder but Etebo adds better forward play to his game to some extent, here again is where only Rohr can help because Shehu needs games and to even start atimes for us to draw a fair and just comparison between him and Etebo. If we must remove Lookman from midfield and include him as a winger, then a centre forward place from the 3CFs of Osimhen, Onuachu and Sadiq has to be sacrificed… But put a knife to my throat, I will have Olayinka and Moses Simon on the left flank. I will never remove Olayinka from any roaster I make… no single player in Super Eagles currently has his tenacity and workrate from goalkeeper to centre forward… this is honesty from the eyes of one who has been on the field and known what sort of players are real assets in match situations especially when a team is against a seeming superior opposition and have their backs against the wall… One love.

    • Dr. Drey 3 years ago

I’ve always said it….you just talk here just because you wanna talk not because you have something you say. How come you did not name a home-based player on your list. How do you justify the hate on the Oyibo coach who has been doing well without inviting home-based players?
See why @Dr. Drey will always fire back at you when you do not give the accolades to the SE coach.
I was thinking of joining voice to support your views BUT my guy, your idealogy is *#*x#x*…404!**%x#

@chris what are you saying… @Dr.Drey does not hold any superior views to mine here. If you read me, you know I stand for fairness and merit above sentiments. @Dr.Drey always twists and turns my fact just for fun of ridicule… I don’t believe in sentiments. You want me to name homebased when people like @Dr.Drey benchmark everything here on top 5 Europe league. Iwuala has the quality but has not done enough numbers in an Eagles shirt. We have a good pool of 30 players now to prosecute our world cup qualifiers at the right levels… I put Iwuala and John Noble (if he is the best goalie in the NPFL league) in the pool of 30. Giving more games and conviction, I will even elevate Iwuala above Chukwueze and Kalu. This is however my feeling and opinion of the guy Iwuala. One love…

        • Dr. Drey 3 years ago

Hahahaha….Dr.Drey’s views now govern your own thought processes right…..LMAO. Dr.Drey’s views is the reason why you are towing exactly the same line for which you have been the wailer in chief of this forum…? Dr. Drey’s views are the reason why you can’t think better than a senile, dumb and brain-dead coach…..LMAO….???
          What an excuse.
Dr.Drey always twists their words after they have been busted…..LMAO.
Dr.Drey must of have also twisted your brain to think “dumb, Senile and as if it were dead” like that of Rohr……LMAO

  • JimmyBall 3 years ago

@Dr.Drey… People are tired of your comic reliefs here. The wingers could be classified as attackers or midfielders, it depends how you want them viewed. Wingers could be attackers in one formation and wide midfielders in another. Where did you see me criticize Rohr for his midfielders before? I just say… no player should have any special status that relegate the merit of form… If Musa, a proven player plays for an NPFL team now, I will have no qualms with Rohr calling him up. But Musa must not remain inactive home or abroad. If I criticized Rohr on anything midfield before is naming Semi Ajayi as midfielder and actually experimenting with him at defensive midfield instead of a Shehu. But you must make a comic show of everything I write even when you yourself know it’s sound and fullproof.

  • OmoEsan 3 years ago

    Hello @Jimmyball.

Thank you for taking out time to answer my scenario based question.

Your choice of Osimhen, Onuachu and Sadiq is quite understandable even though I do not agree with some of your reasons.

You intend to move Olayinka to the left wing right? But you pretend to have forgotten that Samuel Kalu and Moses Simon currently operate from that wing for SE, while Chidera Ejuke is bidding his time, and Ademola lookman’s imminent availability is a good headache in the making for Rohr in that same wing. I wonder who you will drop for our dear Olayinka in that wing from among the duo of Moses Simom and Samuel Kalu.

Let me agree that you will bring in Kelechi as an attacking midfielder in your team of 23.

So you can drop Simmy from your team? Telling us you will throw him in during the world cup qualifiers? OK, if all your choice attackers of Osimhen, Sadiq and Onuachu are fit by that time, who will you drop for Simmy? Like you said, Simmy is 28, experienced, mature and in great form, yet you want him to bid his time before making the team. If I am to go by the impressions you and @Omonaija create with your comments on this forum, I thought you would have squeezed out a way of accommodating Simmy in your team.

I was also shocked at your decision to keep watching Tetrem Moffi for another two seasons before you give him a chance. 2 years faaa! Yet you blame Rohr for not inviting OmoEsan and others. Going by some of your posts, especially @omonaija, one will think that Rohr can go to a competition with a team of 40 and start a team of 22 in every match.

My greatest shocker from your comment so far is the fact that our beloved Junior Ajayi has no place in your team, not in the CF, AM or even the wings. Habaaaaa!

With this little excercise, I’m sure you do appreciate the headache Rohr goes through in team selection. Remember we didn’t even throw Musa and Ighalo in the mix, neither did we consider @omonaija’s crew of Alashe, Arokodare etc.

My brother, you cannot eat your cake and have it. In as much as we admire all these guys, we can’t go to a competition with all of them. As a coach with lot of great talent at your disposal, you must acknowledge the fact that you will drop some of the players you so much admire a good number of times, to the chagrin of your fans.

I once criticized SiaOne for dropping an Awoniyi who helped the team greatly during Olympic qualifiers, preferring a certain Sadiq Umar who played no part in the qualifiers. It only took me two matches to get convinced that SiaOne took the right decision in this regard.

My brother, no one knows it all. In as much as Rohr keeps giving us the result we want, I suggest we give him some breathing space as regards team selection.

Hope you didn’t take paracetamol after answering that question. That’s in a lighter mood though.

    Best regards.

Hahaha…. Omoessanbaba, u too much joor. We now have another replica of @original Dr drey. You just knocked that guy called jimmywetin in to one sorry corner. I mean, these guys would invite even their grandfathers to the national team if given a chance. The reason for this is that nigeria is highly talented, that’s why we are spoilt for choices. That’s why selection of players is a headache for the coach and when he eventually comes up with a list ( a killer squad for that matter) some people will still have the guts to criticize the coach for his decisions. Na these same group of people criticzed keshi during his time. Called him all sorts of names from a tribalist to a kick and follow coach despite his achievements during his time and have now come to eulogise him as the best. Is that not foolishness???? I bet you these same people yabbing nonsense about rohr would one day eulogise him, praise him to the highest heavens for his tremendous achievements and works that they have wickedly failed to acknowledge and appreciate. Na world we dy, what goes around comes around.

@OmoEsan… You want to talk of Junior Ajayi but you have nothing on him believe me… he remains the best Nigerian on the continent and in the best team on the continent… that’s a fact! You keep talking of Samuel Kalu, how many seasons since going to France has he been fully fit? He plays two games and go out injured for 3months, sadly but in reality that has been his story since going to France. He is more on the mend table than on pitch. I have told you I will name Olayinka and Moses Simon on the left flank. It is hard to be sure of Kalu’s fitness. I do not rate him even though fit, higher than Peter Olayinka. I rate Peter Olayinka higher than both Moses Simon and Samuel Kalu. Some of watch football but your sentiments won’t let you assess a player truly for what he brings to bear on gameday. @OmoEsan… In all honesty, can you convince yourself that Moses Simon and Samuel Kalu have performed better than Peter Olayinka in their home league and Europe in the last two seasons? Put on glasses to help you when you watch him against Arsenal in the next Europa League matchup round… na wa o! It’s people like you that will keep inviting Musa even though has been inactive from professional football for 7months. Anyways… One love! Ball know im people abeg!

Let me rewrite it for you for the umpteenth time to read… if he signs a short term contract with any NPFL team and get active while he looks for a befitting transfer and club, I have no issue, but to remain unattached for 7months as a professional in this day and Era, and keeps being smuggled into the squad is nothing but unmeritted needless favour… It is not done anywhere in a civilized and serious national team but hey, no be 3rd world country we be again?
