‘Our Target Against Algeria Is Victory’ —Troost-Ekong

William Troost-Ekong has revealed that the Super Eagles target in Tuesday’s friendly against the Desert Foxes of Algeria in Oran is an outright win.

Troost-Ekong stated this in an interview published on NFF TV.

Both the Eagles and Algeria would be using the friendly to prepare for next year’s 2023 AFCON qualifiers which will resume in March.

And speaking on the new players, training ahead of the friendly, the Watford defender said:“It’s been good we are very happy to see the boys back together and the staff. We have a game coming up against Algeria and spirit have been high, training has been good and we are just working hard to improve our team cohesion and be ready for the game.

“The secret to our team is that there’s togetherness. We have experienced a lot in the last year, for the new guys they are welcome and they will have to do the initiation and singing still but the most important thing is that they are comfortable with us and they can show themselves on the pitch and contribute.

“We want to try and win all the games and improve on all areas, we are playing against Algeria, one of the top teams in Africa we have to show them respect but at the same time even though it’s a friendly game we will try and win the game and prepare ourselves for the qualifiers that would be coming up next.“

Troost-Ekong added:“It’s a great opportunity for the new players to show themselves and for all of us to blend together and understand what the coach expects from us.”

Meanwhile the Eagles will take on the Algerian B team in a test game on Friday in Constantine before facing the Riyad Mahrez-led side next week Tuesday.

Always talk more but always do very less when it comes to the real actions.

He is the captain of the team.. give him the respect he deserves.. I see Ekong having a good game on Tuesday.. Ekong is back to the first 11 of his club and would want to stamp his authority in the Nigerian team as well.. I see Ekong regaining his confidence and pushing Watford back to the EPL like he did few yrs ago

I think Troost Ekong is a shaky and weak loop on Super Eagles; you must be excluded from SE finaly; we will see you will committ many mistakes against your team then you will cost them too much.

Some players wil have their last game for the eagles after playing against Algeria team B . reason y some are afraid to come camp early.

    • You try 2 years ago

It was 4 goals total only three of the time u gave is correct. The 33 mins time was played out by the Algeria player

  • Rubbish and nonsense! What’s the point even if you defeat Algeria 50-0? All minor countries are in the world cup. Sorry I’m not interested in your friendly matches

You can IMAGINE SAM dey have this kind of TARGET for “COMMON FRIENDLY” but at LAST YEAR’S AFCON (a MAJOR COMPETITIVE TOURNAMENT) their TARGET was to ENTERTAIN US… VERY DUMB!!!!!

    Nigeria Football. It is well…..

  • Well… it’s only a coward that will fall down and refuses to try again.
“There’s no greatness in falling but in each time you rise whenever you fall” – Awo
So, because we didn’t qualify for World Cup now, we should stop enjoying or Playing football? Behold, we didn’t qualify under Eguavoen and the present coach is not Rohr either but Paseiro. So, it’s nothing bad if we start counting our unbeaten matches under him from Sierra Leone match. So, let’s put the past behind and support our team.  If I can give my 100% support for my EPL team even when loosing, why not Super Eagles?

  • Am not sure many se fans will get heal from the sickness of world cup that miss untill the tournament is over by December.

But the earlier the better for this healing to begging otherwise every other attempt to bring this team back to where it belongs will be seen as rubish.

  • Mouth Mouth na so una go dey make mouth up and dan. Instead of to do the talking on the pitch una go begin dey sing choir pre match, come game time now, una go begin dey collect wotowoto any how.

abeg enough talk only play humble yourselves you are not even top 10 in Africa any more mtcheew!!! only for mouth

Troost – Ekong… Is not Super Eagles quality. It’s clear there are gatekeepers who invite players. No Alhassan Yusuf, Peter Olayinka… Yet you see fufu players Onyekuru and likes. Between Frank Onyeka and Alhassan who is supposed to be in that team? If you see a baller you need no looking glass.

I have contributed lesser on this forum because SE now is just a dull theme to think about.

How can we not be attending Qatar 2022? I don’t think we will achieve anything under this current crop of players.

Sidon look… Even Eguaveon sef still has a job, a man who is in himself a plague on Nigeria football, past and present.

      LMFAO…

      You wan SIDON dey LOOK?

YOU the PRESIDENT of LET US FAIL with our OWN?

      Wetin WE go come do?

      Dey DANCE dey LOOK?

Hahahahaha, the SE they destroyed with their lies, hatred, racism and bigotry is now a “dull theme” they can no longer talk about……LMAOooo.

They craved clout and the soul of our football on the grave of truth, justice and fairness but now cannot keep up with taste of the sour broth they cooked with the corpse they strangled to death.

Na me must kill am, na only me sabi kill am…ngwa clear road make you kill am na…..bushmeat run away….LMAOOoo. I hope they and their gournmandeers-in-chief (Sunday Dare, Daniel Amokachi, Segun Odegbami et al) are all enjoying the disaster they created….oops…averted…..LMAOooo

        Bloody bunch of failures.

Now they are asking us silly questions…How can we not be attending Qatar 2022….LMAOoo. They should wait a few minutes, lets go ask their forefathers how we are not attending Qatar 2022 first…..LMAOoo.

I thought they claimed they weren’t bothered about our WC ouster before

“Let us fail with our own”…..LMAooo.

Someone should tell them more misery awaits them for at least the foreseeable future. The corpse they thought they interred has 1 harm sticking out from its grave now.

  • WIlfred Ndidi is aparently injured Ladies and gentle men and he is ruled out of SE games vs Algeria…. Na wa oo. so This is proof Nigeria was not destined to make World Cup because even if we did. The way things are going we would have travelled to Qatar with B team.

  • I bring you the news first. Nigeria will not compete with a full squad until the president steps down. Mercies and favours have clearly evaded this team and god forbid the country too.
