Pallister: Why Man United Should Make Casemiro Captain; Hold Rashford, Sign Kane

Manchester United legend Gary Pallister, concerned about the Red Devils’ shaky squad in the 2022/23 season despite winning the Carabao Cup, being in the Premier League top-four race, and reaching the Europa League Round of 16, has been talking and proffering advice on how Erik ten Hag’s squad could be bolstered.

Manchester United horrendously lost 7-0 to Liverpool in the Premier League at Anfield on Sunday, March 5, which raised questions about the squad’s solidity to go the full distance in the remainder of the campaign.

Gary Pallister

Pallister, a former England centre-back who won four Premier League, three FA Cup titles, and a European Cup Winners Cup, among other trophies during his career with United from 1989 to 1998, spoke to Betting Sites, expressing his opinion on drastic measures the club should implement.

Pallister posits that both Bruno Fernandes and Harry Maguire don’t have a warriors’ mentality for United captaincy and recommends that Casemiro be crowned to perform the role. Also according to him, Marcus Rashford must sign a new contract at United because the grass isn’t greener at PSG who have shown interest in signing the prolific goal scorer.

He has also urged Manchester United to hasten up and sign Harry Kane while urging the Tottenham Hotspur captain to salvage his career by joining United after Spurs crash out of the Champions League again.

On Fernandes/Maguire Captaincy, Casemiro

Pallister believes Casemiro would be a better choice for Manchester United captain because Fernandes and Harry Maguire lack a warrior mentality.

Pallister said: “I think Casemiro is a captain in waiting. I think everyone’s been impressed with the way he’s come in with the winning mentality that he’s brought from Real Madrid. I don’t think United have leaders. When I was at the club we were fortunate to have the likes of Steve Bruce, Bryan Robson, Roy Keane, and Paul Ince. These guys were warriors on a football pitch. Bruno is different to that, as is Harry Maguire. I don’t think they’ve got that warrior mentality.”

On Rashford to PSG Talks

Pallister urges Rashford to sign a new contract after PSG crashed out of UCL, saying “grass isn’t always greener.”

He said: “Rashford’s put himself in a position where there’s a lot of European clubs looking at him. He’s sorted his life out away from football because perhaps there was too much going on which muddied the water. I wouldn’t say he owes it to the club to sign but every Man Utd fan wants to see him stay. My gut feeling is that he will sign but if he’s thinking otherwise I’d say be careful because the grass isn’t always greener.”

On the need for Man United to sign Kane

Pallister is adamant that Man United need a no 9 & after Spurs crashed out of UCL last night, he thinks Kane is the man to get.

He said: “Harry Kane fits the bill for United. You can tell he’s fed up at Spurs. A player of his ability not to have any trophies in his cabinet at this stage of his career? He tried to force a move away two seasons ago and apparently had the owner’s word of honour that he would let him go if he ever asked to leave. I’m sure it rankles that he went back on that. My gut feeling is that he will want out this summer, and I think he should come to United. He’s turning 30 soon and that’s a big moment for a player because you realise you’re coming to the back end of your career.”
