Paris 2024 Olympics: Ajayi, Ashe  Zoom Into Men’s 100m Semis

Nigeria’s Kanyinsola Ajayi zoomed into the semi-finals of the men’s 100m at the ongoing 2024 Olympic Games after claiming first position in Heat 5.

Ajayi put everyone on notice after winning the race in a time of 10.02s.

He defeated defending champions, Italy’s Lamont Marcell Jacobs who finished second in 10.05s, with Ghana’s Abdul-Rasheed Saminu coming in third in a time of 10.06s.

Another top contender Benjamin Richardson of Jamaica finished in fourth position.

The 25-year-old is making his debut at the Olympics.

Ajayi will face a strong field that include South Africa’s Akani Simbine and Letsile Tebogo of Botswana in the semis on Sunday.

Another Nigerian, Favour Ashe also progressed to the semis.

Ashe finished fourth in Heat 4 in a time of 10.16s.

He finished behind Jamaica’s Oblique Seville, Japan’s Abdul Hakim Sani Brown and Thailand’s Thurpool Bonboon.

Ashe grabbed the last non-automatic spot.

He will contend with Cameroon’s Emmanuel Eseme, Ghana’s Benjamin Azamati and six others in the semi-finals.

In swimming, Adaku Nwandu finished second in heat 6 of women’s 50m Freestyle behind Elizaveta Pecherskikh.

She however failed to make it to the final.
