Pellegrini Eyes Progress Despite ‘Transition’

Manuel Pellegrini says West Ham remain in “transition” but he insists the current campaign “hasn’t been a bad season” as they sit down in 11th.

Ahead of Monday’s away clash with London rivals Chelsea, Pellegrini has been asked about how he feels his debut campaign at the London Stadium has gone.

The Chilean has had his fair share of critics as the Hammers have underwhelmed at times but the former Villarreal and Manchester City manager is staying positive and insists it was always going to take time to get things right.

In fact, Pellegrini says his side should be judged at the end of the season as they could yet finish seventh with six games still to play. “I don’t think it’s time to evaluate yet because we still have six very important games left,” he told Sky Sports.

“But it hasn’t been a bad season because in relation to last season, there has been big progress.

I think the fans have been very happy with a lot of our performances. “It’s true that it was always going to be a transitional season because we are trying to change a lot of things, but within that transition, you have to get the maximum out of yourself.” He added: “You can’t content yourself by saying that we are in transition and we can’t do anything more.

I always try to demand more, which is why I always have the objective in my mind.” Following the Chelsea game, West Ham face Manchester United, Leicester, Tottenham, Southampton and Watford during the run-in.
