Perez Working Towards Spain Return

Ayoze Perez says he’s happy with life at Newcastle but admits that he wants to return home and play in Spain one day soon. The Toon brought in the 25-year-old from Tenerife in 2014, beating off competition from the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona, according to Perez himself.

Although he’s not been prolific in his five years at St James’ Park, netting 42 times in 187 appearances for the Magpies, the Spaniard has been a key player for Rafael Benitez this season. His hard work for the north-east outfit has reportedly caught the attention of several clubs, with Real Sociedad and Real Betis understood to be fans of Perez.

The forward has now admitted he dreams of playing in his homeland again but was keen to stress he has no plans to move away from Newcastle at this moment in time. When asked by Spanish newspaper Marca whether he wants to return to Spain, Perez replied: “Yes. I am very grateful to Newcastle – I have grown and matured here, but it is obvious that some day I would like to come back and play in La Liga.

“To this day, I do not know [what the futures holds]. I hope something very good. I believe that I have shown my merit during these five years so that a good opportunity presents itself.”
