Jose Peseiro has confirmed he has been contacted by the Algeria Football Federation to be the new head coach of the country’s national team, the Desert Foxes.
Peseiro is a free agent following the expiration of his contract with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
The Portuguese led the Super Eagles to a second-place finish at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
Algeria are in the hunt for a new coach following the sacking of Djamel Belmadi last month.

” I received an offer from the FAF but I will first rest and my agent will take care of it.”

Imagine a coach pocketing 200 million naira every month yet he couldn’t take Algeria out of their group for two consecutive AFCON….
That’s to say, 3 months PESEIRO’s salary isn’t up to Algerian coach one month salary….. Don’t forget PESEIRO still pays his assistant from the 60 million naira NFF is paying him the same way oga gernot Rohr did.
And even with this some people are still complaining that the money is too much…..
I don’t know the kind juju that NFF is using on white coaches.
Or is it God that is working in our favour?
I pray NFF accept PESEIRO terms of contract and allow him stay…..
He has justified himself and deserve a new favourable contract which includes NFF paying the assistant coach not the coach using his Pinot of a salary to pay his assistant.
We’ve money in this country…. One politician can pay the entire NFF staff for years without his account shaking.
Oga Paseiro! Please go and take the Algeria Jon.
Super Eagles will be fine and better.
We need Amunike!
You mean Amunike the serial failure?
What has peseiro won in his life. Before afcon he played 11 without winning any and at afcon he played negative and still didn’t win it. Wherever he goes he is serial failure including his home country he has never won anything. Amunike won under 17 World Cup. He have never coach any big footballing country or club. Please respect your own.enough of all this half baked oyinbo coaches. We want Nigerian coaches. 4 of the last 6 afcon have been won by African coaches which includes Stephen keshi.
That was how we chase Rohr out with our sentiment of “we need home based Coach, and here comes eguavoen that successfully gave us the nightmare of our lives and we started crying at the end…. Booted out of AFCON round 16 by one rookie unknown Tunisian assistant coach….. The worst GHANA team ever for over a decade schooled our technical adviser including his 9 consortium NFF hired and paid without complaining of no money….. What happened at the end?
Now we’re going back to the same old root.
When will we learn a lesson of our lives?
A team that over 60% Nigerian never believe will reach anywhere made it to the final, and instead of allowing for continuity we want the team to play like Man City or real Madrid without minding the caliber of players we’ve.
This amunike of a guy everybody is yearning for was among the coaches that couldn’t score against GHANA until the referee manufactured one childish penalty which EKONG converted.
Amunike’s coaching cv has nothing to write home about. I’ll even prefer siasia over a coach that have achieved nothing apart from the under age football tournament he won 9 years ago.
That’s the coach Nigerians want.
Only God will save us in this country.

@Chukk
I’m sorry for coming late, it’s due to some certain issues best known to me.
Attending to your question in the first paragraph….
Even if PESEIRO haven’t won’t any trophy before the AFCON, his rich experience and stats he has gathered around the world is bigger than that of all Nigerian ex international coaches that coached super eagles combined.
I can bet you, in 50 years time no Nigerian ex international will come close to working as assistant coach of either Real Madrid or Manchester united.
I’ll still bet you that no Nigerian ex international will ever guide any European Club to UEFA EUROPA LEAGUE FINAL.
This is what PESEIRO did in style with SPORTING CP in 2005 where he Lost 3-1 to CSK MOSCOW.
He won the Egyptian premier league with AL AHLY in 2016….
PESEIRO won the Portugal TACA DA LIGA in 2013.
Remember, these two trophies aren’t under age tournament where we gather 25 years old men and claim to be 15 or 16…..
I guess you haven’t checked amunike’s coaching stats, if you check I bet you will shed tears….
Even Siasia has a rich stats than him.
Siasia is even more sound and tactical than him.
Siasia has guided U20 to WC final….. Amunike can’t even qualify the team.
Siasia won NIGERIA bronze in Olympics.
Please next time don’t defend mediocrity….
Place amunike and one tactics man eguavoen, I’ll close my eyes and pick eguavoen.
Before I go, all ex international that coached the super eagles, both past, present and future can’t match PESEIROs Rich experience and stats.
I rest my case.

$200K offer by the Algerian FA Vs current $60K by the NFF. And with his contract with the NFF officially over and no renewal talks. With that body language, the choice for Paseiro is clear. I think we might likely lose him.
Would anyone even take $60K over $200K (except for job security)? Not even close. Even if nah 6 months before they sack am, he don cash out already.
Tbh, honestly Paseiro is not a bad coach if he could fix the notable flaws most fans have pointed out. I particularly love the speed, intelligence, and fluidity of his team when on the attack.
Fingers crossed.
Thank God he has used us to get huge offers, I wish him well….
The proof that you did well in your last job is that big teams like Algeria will come asking you to be their coach.
The proof that you didn’t do well is that small teams like Benin republic will hire you.
Good luck Mr. Paseiro. We appreciate you.
WELL, YOUR SUCCESS WITH ANY TEAM DOES NOT DEPEND ONLY ON YOUR TECHNICAL DEPTH, BUT TO A VERY LARGE EXTENT ALSO DEPENDS ON THE TALENTS AT YOUR DISPOSAL. GOOD LUCK.
I asked a question about coach Paseiro, but to my surprise, Nigerians did not answer the question, so that shows we are deceiving ourselves.
Here is the question again. In what areas did you think coach Paseiro has improved Super Eagles? What has he done differently that merits his continuity as the Super Eagles manager?
If nobody can boldly answer me the question, then we are just deceiving ourselves as I said above. Sorry o. There is no disrespect to Nigerians, but that is just the reality of the matter. Yes, we are just deceiving ourselves because we see white color, but we are calling it black. So, are we not deceiving ourselves, ba?
If a local coach from Ivory Coast could show Oga Paseiro how to play good football at the Afcon final while Mr. Paseiro did not responded so why retaining the gaffer?
Don’t get me wrong, people. Oga Paseiro has done well, but if we want a good or fantastic team that we can call Super Eagles, also we want to make it to another
Afcon and qualify for World Cup, then NFF should let coach Paseiro go.
I hope you people are seeing what I’m seeing. Hmmm. Nigeria may not qualify for the World Cup and Afcon if Oga Paseiro continues.
For example, Nigerians are blaming Iwobi and Ola Aina for no reasons, forgotten that coach Paseiro should have been blamed for what has happened in Ivory Coast.
Let’s give Amunike or other local coaches a chance to be in charge of the Super Eagles.
I have said my own, but a word is enough for the wise. Ire o. God bless Nigeria!!!
It doesn’t matter if the coach is black or white . Is he technically good. Does he have good players does he have the support . Is he able to withstand influence from the FA . Will players be forced on him . Competitive results are important more than friendlies. How many competitive match has the present team lost . They qualified for AFCON – most gave them no chance . Now they went beyond their target . Coaches underpaid and in the mist of irks cup we want to chop and change . There are better coaches out there but us there money to pay them . Will they be given a free hand and will they get the full support
Incidentally, there is a beautiful article in Punch newspaper today (Monday) with a title Omo9ja and other “it’s time for our own to take charge of our national team” fans. Close your eyes….
Title is “FULL LIST: 11 African coaches who won AFCON trophy”
Excerpts:
“Here is a full list of African coaches who have conquered and won the AFCON since its inaugural edition:
Sudan 1957: Mourad Fahmy (Egypt)
Ghana 1963: Charles Gyamfi (Ghana)
Tunisia 1965: Charles Gyamfi (Ghana)
Ghana 1978: Fred Osam Doudu (Ghana)
Libya 1982: Charles Gyamfi (Ghana)
Algeria 1990: Abdelhamid Kermali (Algeria)
Senegal 1992: Martial Yeo (Cote d’Ivoire)
South Africa 1996: Clive Barker (South Africa)
Burkina Faso 1998: Mohamed Al Gohari (Egypt)
Egypt 2006: Hassan Shehata (Egypt)
Ghana 2008: Hassan Shehata (Egypt)
Angola 2010: Hassan Shehata (Egypt)
South Africa 2013: Stephen Keshi (Nigeria)
Egypt 2019: Djamel Belmadi (Algeria)
Cameroon 2021: Aliou Cisse (Senegal)
Cote d’Ivoire 2023: Emerse Fae (Cote d’Ivoire)”
Granted, there were 16 out of 34 editions won by “local coaches” but only 11 as 2 won it 3 times.
Simply put, 11 African coaches as AFCON winners in 34 editions (where many even led the countries with pressure on all sides to win and less number of participating teams too) does not simply cut it.
Times have changed.
Please Just go, the juicy offer they offering you is just to lure you to their side, if you under-perform you gone, unlike the NFF you bribe when you don’t do well. Go ahead and try it and turn the team to a defensive one, the arabs dont joke. Their FA listens to their fans unlike us that don’t matter.I know very well you will not last if eventually you take the job.
Rohr was fired after he qualified the team to the AFCON . Inept Eguavon failed in the last 16 and World Cup qualifiers. Now Amunike is the name being touted. Really what has he achieved . What did he do with Tanzania . The players are happy with the status quo . Why change it at a crucial stage like this. The World Cup could end I. June if a mistake is made . New coach new system new players new pressure , I don’t think it’s right. He was takes to take the team to the semis and he did that . How many top African teams will
Lose a Cup final at home ???
What did Peseiro do with Saudi and Venezuela? Or what did he do before he started parking the bus? And what’s good about parking the bus and hurting your players for 90 plus minutes? You argue from one side of the mouth just to downplay a legend only to watch Senegal and CIV do it with their own legends.
