Peseiro Linked With Return As Super Eagles Coach

Jose Peseiro has been linked with a return to the Super Eagles coaching job.

After leading the Super Eagles to a second place finish at the AFCON 2023, Peseiro left his position and was replaced by Finidi George. The former winger has since taken over the Rivers United head coach job.

According to Gerald Baloyi of local agency, Vodia Sports International Management, Peseiro has been offered to South Africa Premier Soccer League (PSL) giants Mamelodi Sundowns.

The Portuguese joins Frenchman Patrice Carteron, and former Orlando Pirates head coach Josef Zinnbauer, who are also linked with Sundowns.

Baloyi, however, said despite Peseiro being linked with the Sundowns coaching job, he could return to the Super Eagles job.

“Yes Vodia Sports International Management offered Jose Peseiro to Sundowns, though the Nigerian national teams are interested in bringing him to take over again,” Gerald Baloyi told KickOff.

Peseiro led the Eagles to 1-1 draws against Lesotho and Zimbabwe on matchday 1 and 2 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in November 2023.

The Eagles currently occupy fifth place in Group C on three points after four games.

They will resume the qualifiers in March when they will face Rwanda in Kigali before hosting Zimbabwe in Uyo.

Meanwhile, the Eagles will take on Rwanda, Benin Republic and Libya.

We don’t want him back as super eagles coach.

    • KangA 2 weeks ago

Who are the “we”? The bigger WE want him back. Peseiro is not perfect but he is far ahead of “Our own” who have serially failed us.

We can make a deal that will save Nigerian football:

      – sign Peseiro for 2 years
      – appoint a coach with a pro license to understudy him (no assurance to become the substantive coach)
      – give him achievable targets
      – shun all negative advice from negative people like Odegbamo, Peterside, Ikhana, Ayodele, you name them.
      – the NFF undergoes a rebirth. This is very tricky. Let’s not forget history. The deadwoods in NFF should leave honourably. NFF is not a rehabilitation zone. What is Eguavon doing there? Where are his technical inputs? About 95% of board members have lost both their sense of direction and touch with soccer, the type: TAKA KPIA; TAKA TAKA KPIA KPIA which the SE was known for.
      – the new NFF must take the welfare of coaches/players seriously.

But will Peseiro agree to come back?

    • TALK UR OWN 2 weeks ago

I DON’T KNOW WHAT IS SPECIAL IN PASEIRO THAT MAKE NFF STILL BE LINKING FOR HIS RETURN. FORGET THAT HE TOOK NIGERIA TO AFCON FINAL. THERE IS NOTHING SPECIAL IN ALL THE MATCHES HE PLAYED. THIS IS A COACH THAT ALWAYS INVITE PLAYERS BASED ON EGO, SENIORITY & EXPERIENCE WITHOUT FITNESS, INFACT, THIS IS A COACH THAT DOESN’T CONSIDER FITNESS, FORM, POTENTIAL AS A YARDSTICK FOR INVITATION. LEAVING OUT TOP FORM PLAYERS LIKE OLISA NDAH, EBUEHI, GIFT ORBAN, DESSERS, DELE-BASHIRU, EJUKE FOR AFCON. AND TOOK IN REJECTED IHEANACHO, LAZY & BENCHWARMER ARIBO, UNBLENDABLE & IRRELEVANT ONUACHU, USELESS CAPTAIN AHMED MUSA TO THE COMPETITION.
INFACT, IF NFF EVENTUALLY ENGAGE PASEIRO BECAUSE OF THEIR SELFISH CORRUPTION WILL, I PRAY THAT NIGERIA WILL NOT QUALIFY FOR BOTH NEXT WORLD CUP & AFCON INSHALLAH.

Mr Peseiro, you better run for your life…LMAOoo.

You want to return to being owed for 8 months yet perpetually attacked and undermined by racist folks like by Chief Odegbami and co even after you have just returned from a 24 team AFCON with a silver medal…?

    • Greatest 2 weeks ago

Don’t mind Nigerians. Peseiro is the best thing that happened to Super Eagles in the last 10 years. But a lot of novices don’t know.

      • So you Dead Brains want us to be Subjected to Heart Attack football only to be creamed in SA by this Novice Coach who got Silverware by Luck???.. Please we can do Much better than Peseiro we deserve a World Class Coach and tactically Hugo Broos is superioir to Peseiro and With Peserio’s tactic and 60 000 south Africans backing SA in Bloem we will not witstad the onslought as we did In Cote d’ Ivoire!!!!!.. I would have expected you people to reason this.. It is because of Peserio the team is iin shambles they have no tactics no pln B n plan C.. Peseiro does not know how to set up a team and overworks players to the teams detriment. Super Eagles Players under Peseiro and his understudy Finidi( Who really picked up were Peseiro Left of as you clueless lot demanded lol) do not play to their strengths. His style of play and game reading is of an average level coach Period!!!

Super Eagles don’t need this Peseiro again.Let Him get another job elsewhere

  • pompei 2 weeks ago

    Wonders shall never end.
So why o why was his contract not renewed in the first place? Why did we not GET THIS RIGHT THE FIRST TIME?
So clarity is now restored after WOEFUL FAILURE WITH THEIR OWN?
If this is true, then we have to renew calls for the sacking of the NFF president and the entire board.
What further proof of utter cluelessness do we need? Going back to Peseiro again?
What about the news that they were talking with Rafa Benitez that someone mentioned here the other day?
Can’t we FOR ONCE go for the best available? FOR ONCE!
Must it always be Okrika Oshodi? Did they swear for us not to patronize designer high end materials?
Always MANAGING and SCROUNGING, when we could be having an abundance? Always drinking garri without sugar, when we could be eating jollof rice and chicken? Because of some yeye, bizarre desire to “save money”, which will eventually line private pockets?
With all due respect to Peseiro who I must say did a nice job given the awful circumstances he had to work in, we need someone with more pedigree. We need to be ambitious, for goodness sake!
The coach we should be looking at now should be one that is capable of winning the next Afcon and world cup. CAPABLE is the operative word. If a coach is not LIKELY to achieve these objectives based on his resume, then we must decline and look for someone that matches our ambitions.
Unless of course we lack ambition. In which case, anything goes. Let us kuku continue to do anyhow. When we see anyhow, we have no reason to complain. We will lie on our bed the way we laid it.

You guys have started this madness again? Paseiro is done and dusted! Stop all these fake rumours. He put us in this mess we are.

  • Omo9ja 2 weeks ago

I can guarantee you all that if Paseiro return as the Super Eagles coach, Nigeria won’t be at the world cup or even make to another Afcon.

I will rather consider Siasia to this Paseiro. NFF have nothing to offer us but time is running out. That is my major concern.

I am trying to shift my attention to something else but the love I have for Nigeria and Super Eagles is huge. It seems like this NFF is not competent, serious and clueless. Why wasting my time kę.

This NFF will destroy our football. Nigeria government need to step in before it is too late. The way it is at the moment in the Super Eagles, I will say goodbye to Nigeria Football until NFF is ready to turn things around. Ire o. God bless Nigeria!!!

  • Onero 2 weeks ago

If Peseiro return;its the handiwork of the sport minister. The guy still reason like an average Nigerian 1960 man, archaic and not modern .This could be culled from his insistence on a local coach even after the technical committee recommended a foreign coach. He also don’t have the habit to accepting responsibilities for wrong decisons

  • Beryl 2 weeks ago

Aluko is now part of a coaching staff

  • For me, jose peseiro deserves more respect and honor than nff are giving him. For me, i wish he makes a return. But the nff are taking this man for granted. U owed a top-class portuguese tactician for close to 9-months. And now u are coming back for him when u had the chance to talk with him over renewing his contract as super eagles coach.
though i love that man and will like him to make a return, but if i was peseiro, i won’t return because he has been under-estimated. But honestly, we need that man. Honestly!

  • A disgrace if you ask me an utter disgrace. So what Is peseiro going to do line the defence up in SA return leg and just Give Hugo Broos the chance to destroy us with open leg?? chai Wonders shall never end.. Wait is NFF actually Sick!!. And my People go on Facebook you will actually see some Clueless Dead Brain Nigerians especially the older lot support this Outrage.. It is Comming to a point where one of these NFF and sports ministry people Will get assasinated if Time is not taking. They can’t be playing and toying with the hearts of millions like this and there is no repraucation. The problem in Nigeria is the same disgusting rubbish keeps getting repeated like insanity because, In Nigeria Nobody Is heald Accountable for Faliure!!!!!! Disgusting. @CSN You people are FOOOLS for posting this sort of Rubbish and making it seem like an option you bastards are also responsible for the Faliure of Super Eagles.. RUBBISH!!!!!!!!!!!!

We don’t need him. He’s the one who put us in this mess. I thought that he was making ao much noise about countries that wanted to employ him immediately after the AFCON, where are these countries now?

NFF are disorganized if not, they wouldn’t be talking about this average coach who cannot get a job anymore in Europe and South Africa.

Why should he linked to coach super Eagles again, he ran away after Afcon because knows he couldn’t qualify us for the world cup after struggled for two draws against two less fancied national teams. Our football administrators should be ashamed of linking to him again. Does It mean that in the wide world of football they can’t find a good coach for our super Eagles. They are then good for nothing and have out stayed their usefulness in the glass house.

  • John-1 2 weeks ago

Why is he still unemployed? He should be coaching Bayern Munich or FC Barcelona!

  • Chima E Samuels 2 weeks ago

    Mad country!

  • I hate this country called Nigeria. Why can’t we be organized ,is Nigeria cursed to fail or what??

  • Peserio should be our history na. He quit 5 months ago. It should stay that way. I guess glasshouse is gauging our response to the very obvious fake news. Are tacticians suddenly scarce for a whole nation?

Let’s read the above as fake news. He is not like Waldrum that created history at the women’s world cup by any African nation.

Haba guys, can’t you identifies a fake sensational news when you see one???

CSN just want more traffic on this forum, relax guys because this news is banana fake news

NFF boss and Sport Minister were in UK last week to interview prospective coaches, we shall hear from them soon

  • Bobby 1 week ago

How could the NFF President and Sports Minister travel to Europe in search of foreign coaches? That’s crazy. They ought to have used the Internet, get these coaches and interview them online. After that, they pick one. These guys lack common sense.

    • Gbam @Bobby you have got it, if you don’t gerit forget abourit

Na so dem day take Chop the money na.. Dem think say dem get sense pass all of us.. no worry bros Na Craze go worry all of dem very soon. Which Kind interview. Na Louis Vitton and Gucci Shop carry dem go London.

As you have Rightly pointed out there is no need for them to be in Europe the Interview process can be conducted online in fact you can conduct one after the other that way as is the Mandatory format these days which is more effective.

419 na wettin full everywhere fr that yeye Glass House! yeye dey smell..

      • Dr Banks 1 week ago

You the funny thing they did again was that they actually interviewed some of the coaches virtually while in London, as if dem no get internet data and laptop at the Glass house in Abuja lol

Nigerian leaders are the most horrible leaders in the whole world

  • Bobby 1 week ago

Administratively, Nigeria is very poor. If not we ought to won the World Cup. If NFF were organizational sound, technically and tactically poor coaches wouldn’t have handled the Super Eagles. Peseiro, Rohr and the likes are not top coaches and that is why they couldn’t win any tournament.

Nigeria has money to hire a top quality coach. Jose Pekerman and Fernando Santos are available.

    • Dr. Drey 1 week ago

Even the low budget Rohr and Peserio, could they afford to pay them….LMAOoo.

The players are also still being owed bonuses from as far back as 2021.

All the coaches of all other national teams are currently unpaid too….despite having mere pay-as-you-play arrangements with them.

Some of you just like building castles in the air. Of what use is employing Pep Guadiola yet owing his backroom staff and the players….?!

  • Edoman 1 week ago

Please. Mr peserio should never come back to rescue the ungrateful Nation like the super eagle. These people have not learnt their lesson yet. for example, they don’t have good ethics of paying what they own, they live in utopia and make-believe world. Nigerians, particularly guys like Ugo, Omo9ja and thief Odagbemi. They believes that the world revolves around them. Some Nigerians here will boast that they can or should employ the world-class coach out there without thinking of their inherent inability to pay wages when due. Who, in his right mind, would want to work for a Federation that tends to own 9 months or so behind in their wage’s bills. Would you? Ugo, omo9ja and cohort, answer me, would you?

    • @Edoman Oga NFF have Money NFF Have Money Do you hear Me NFF HAVE MONEY!. Otherwise how can you explain flying to Europe to interview Coaches when there is Laptop’s Internet and Teams???? How?… where is the 4.5Mil we won at AFCON has it been accounted for??. Or you go just Open Mouth Waaaaaaa!!! proclaiming NFF don’t have money. Or do you not think a so called Giant of Africa deserves a World Class coach??.. Or is Giant of Africa by Mouth!. Tell me which Top 10 team in Africa will be satisfied with a Average Coach in a World Cup build-up??? if not for Nigeria Fake Giant of Africa mtcheeeeew!!!, fast becoming Ant Of Africa, why?, because of Corrupt leaders and Gullible Fans like you!

We don’t like Pesiero returning back for Super Eagles coaching , in his reign he has been beaten and made many drawns, he hasn’t definite play style ; so we recommend to hire Herve Renard or Joaqin Caparros or Jurgan Klinsmann who was dismissed yesterday by South Korean Football Association , we would like pidegree coach who is World Class coach who has experience to manage the players and has pattern of play to put it for Super Eagles; pattern of play with total football (that means all players defend when they loose the ball , and attack when they keep the ball)…
