Pre-Season: Iwobi In Action As Everton Suffer Heavy Defeat To MLS Side

Alex Iwobi featured for Everton but could not do much as the Premier League side were hammered 4-0 by MLS outfit Minnesota United, in their second pre-season fixture in the early hours of Thursday.

Iwobi was in Frank Lampard’s starting lineup before he was substituted ahead of the start of the second half.

Going into the game Everton, who narrowly escaped relegation last season, lost 2-0 to Arsenal in their first pre-season game with Iwobi also in action.

Minnesota United took the lead on 18 minutes from the penalty spot thanks to Emanuel Reynoso after the ball hit Tom Davies’ hand in the penalty box.

In the 32nd minute Minnesota doubled their lead as Kemar Lawrence drilled a devilish low cross into the Everton penalty box and Michael Keane attempted to cut it out but inadvertently deflected into his own goal.

The home side made it 3-0 on 36 minutes when Luis Amarilla bundled in from close range after Jordan Pickford saved superbly from Bongokuhle Hlongwane.

Minnesota then added a fourth goal with 12 minutes to go when Abu Danladi finished from six yards.

The Toffees will hope to bounce back from the latest defeat when they face Blackpool in another pre-season game on Sunday.

Don’ expect much from Everton in this coming season. They seemed to be the next candidate to go down next. They could not purchase any note-worthy player to replace Richardson they sold. Nigeria Paul Onunachu would have been a worthy replacement if they were serious to effectively retain their rightful place in the Premier League this coming season.
