Premier League: Chelsea Bounce Back To Defeat Crystal Palace

It was a return to winning ways for Chelsea who thrashed Crystal Palace 4-0 in Saturday’s Premier League game at Stamford Bridge.

Prior to Saturday’s fixture Chelsea had failed to win their last two league games, losing to Liverpool and drew with West Bromwich Albion.

A brace from Jorginho, both from the penalty spot, and a goal each from Kurt Zouma and Ben Chillwell who also bagged an assist on his Premier League debut, secured the comfortable win for the Blues.

Chilwell is now just the third player to both score and assist a goal on their Premier League debut for Chelsea, after Deco in August 2008 and Alvaro Morata in August 2017.

In action for Palace was new signing Eberechi Eze who was in action for 90 minutes.

The win took Chelsea to fourth position on seven points in the league table.

Palace went close to opening the scoring on 17 minutes but Thiago Silva made a crucial sliding block to stop a through-ball finding Wilfred Zaha who was racing in behind the Chelsea defence.

Just three minutes later Kai Havertz found Timo Werner in space on the left just inside the Palace box after a brilliant run, but the German’s subsequent strike was straight at Guaita, who collected comfortably.

After a goalless first half Chelsea eventually opened scoring on 50 minutes through Chillwell on his 100th Premier League appearance as he smashed in a loose ball from close range.

In the  59th minute Zouma almost doubled Chelsea lead as he rose first to meet Chilwell’s corner, but he sent his header bouncing just wide of the goal.

Zouma eventually got on the score sheet to double Chelsea lead on 66 minutes as he lept highest to direct Chilwell’s cross into the corner of the net with a brilliant header.

With 13 minutes left in the game Chelsea went 3-0 up thanks to  Jorginho who converted from the penalty spot after Tammy Abraham was fouled inside the  box.

Jorginho got on the score sheet again ffom the penalty spot in the 82nd minute to make it 4-0 to Chelsea.
