We wasted our chances playing this lad in the wings in Cameroon when we badly needs a playmaker..
Hiring Eguavoen was one of Nff’s greatest mistakes.

Prophets always suffer ridicule from their kingsmen. That’s even worse with Nigerians. Those that pour shit in our faces, are the ones we praise and ever ready to protect. Late Idiagbon and IBB are just a sample case. I am really happy for Iwobi. Thanks be to God and all Glories/praise to HIM. Iwobi has really gone through a lot. May God bless his parents and siblings who have had to go through those difficult period with him.

…Eguaveon has always been a curse on Nigeria football. Right from USA 1994. Ecerything he touches turn to dust. If NFF has hired Amuneke/Manu/Finidi we clamoured for, we will be in World Cup now.

…I remember him coming on for Jero Shakpoke in Nigeria vs Netherlands friendly match sometime in 1998 before France 1998. He was just out of sorts. He needs national team to stay alive.

…She came on in the second half and within 15minutes Marc Overmars has used him to set up two goals, it was so embarassing they had sub him out again.

You clown@jimmyball. You were the one alongside omo9ja singing eguaveon’s praise to high heavens. You specifically said with the crop of players we have, any coach can win the AFCON and get to round of 16 at the world cup. You said any coach except rohr. You clamoured for players like Ndah, awoniyi, Nwakali, olayinka Umar, Dennis. You even said okoye should be dropped and replaced by uzoho. You said amunike should be drafted into the team. All of these happened just as you wished and kindly tell us how everything panned out.
How did we fare in the AFCON? What’s our group in the world cup?
Omo9ja has suddenly turned his back on Mr no nonsense and is now clamouring for olofinjana. The Same Mr no nonsense he said would give us total football. Odegbami has refused to write those lengthy epistles he wrote against rohr. He has buried his head in shame. All what we said would happen if rohr was sacked has happened.

      • Truly it has happened and more is likely to come except the right thing is done. Right now they are proposing having certain number of home base players in super eagles line up to develop their league. Back to the main topic Alex Iwobi has churning out this performances for some matches now since he has been deployed to his prefer role number 10 no wonder he is number one on Lampard team sheet with 90 minute of action. He is arguably their best player in their last 3 matches just that results have not been making him to get the kind of recognition he deserves.

@Dennis… I know you are @Dr.Drey… So keep following me about. You asked for Eguaveon? Am I just starting to watch Nigeria football? I have always maintained our team is average… Why did you see me clamoring for more players? I have since sized up the set of players we have… I clamored for Olayinka, Junior Ajayi, Awoniyi… So tell me what percentage of involvement these players played in SE in the last 3years? I have watch enough of Sadiq Umar in Segunda Liga, my argument is that he should move to an elite league before being mentioned in same breath as players like Awoniyi… My clamour for years for Junior Ajayi is because of what I see the likes of Iheanacho play in SE… hugely inconsistent and unreliable displays for several years… Was Iheanacho not the worst player in Kumasi? Guy leave story…

Hmm. Oga. U never said our team was average. When Rohr said our players were average and young, u were one of those who ridiculed, insulted and said another coach would win afcon with the same team u are now branding average. I agree u were never really into Eguavoen but u disliked Rohr and even the devil knows. You hated him so much that when Egu was announced as interim coach, u said that “it is better to fail with our own”.Just accept ur past errors and apologize.

      • JimmyBall 2 years ago

Ndah is better than Troost Ekong… We would have conceded world cup ticket in Kumasi because of Ekong if not for Balogun… I won’t name Ekong in street football monkey post not to talk of serious football… Coaches who can’t be fooled like Roy Hodgson knows Ekong is not EPL level…

Its like there is a curse around Eguavon. He has never succeeded with any team as a coach.I also remember how he used to cause penalties against Nigeria in his playing days. They used to call him hatchet man because of his penalty-causing very rough tackles

  • Respect IS RECIPROCAL 2 years ago

There is no curse on Egu , he is not just good . He is not intelligent in anything he does. You can say there is a curse on someone who he good at what he does but without result. Egu is just below average like 30 percentile.

Against the weakest Ghana team in the last 50 years, Eguavoen and company contrived to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.
It was a stunning defeat against all odds. To lose when you have all the advantage.
Like a lion falling in battle to a rabbit. This is what Eguavoen and company accomplished.
Nigeria failed to get past a Ghana that could not make it out of their Afcon group, a Ghana that was stunned by tiny Comoros, who have a population of less then 1 million inhabitants!!!
So, indeed, Eguavoen failed woefully. However, he is not cursed.
This is the same Eguavoen that won the 1994 Afcon as a player for Nigeria. He won the Afcon bronze as Nigeria coach.
For me, his greatest achievement is spanking the Fennec Foxes 5-2 right there in Algeria, in a crowded pro-Algeria stadium. Algeria’s heaviest home defeat to date.
Perhaps, if Eguavoen had more than just a few months to prepare, he would have fared much better.
However, nobody put a gun on his head and forced him to accept the poisoned chalice of a job presented to him. He willingly accepted the job, knowing he had so little time to prepare.
He thus walked right into the trap with his eyes wide open, and became the scape goat, the fall guy.
