Pakistan started poorly, losing opener Fakhar Zaman for just one and his partner Imam-ul-Haq did little better with eight.

They were two of the seven visiting batsmen who failed to make it to double figures, with captain Safrez Ahmed the only man to make a half-century before going for 56.

Olivier was the main architect of their downfall with 4-48, while Dale Steyn took 3-48 and Kagiso Rabada 2-35 to reduce the tourists to 177 all out.

Opener Aiden Markram struck 78 in South Africa’s reply, recording 14 fours and one six before being bowled by Shan Masood with the final ball of the day.

Dean Elgar had already gone to Mohammad Amir for 20, while Hashim Amla reached the close on 24 with South Africa Cape 123-2.
