Rangers Boss Hails ‘Dynamic Player’ Bassey After Win Vs Dortmund

Rangers manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst praised the impact of Calvin Bassey following his side’s 2-2 draw against Borussia Dortmund on Thursday night.

Bassey put up a fine performance in the second leg of the Europa League playoff tie at the Ibrox Stadium.

Rangers won the contest 6-4 on aggregate to seal a place in the Round of 16.

The Gers trailed 2-1 at the break, with Bassey setting up James Tavernier for the equalizer in the 57th minute.

“He’s very dynamic, he’s very versatile because he can play as a centre-back, it’s not his natural position but I think his development in that position is very good,” Van Bronckhorst told Rangers TV after the game.

“He can play left-back, he’s strong, and he’s fast. The most important thing he wants to learn, he wants to be better, every training session he comes with a lot of questions.

“I think we have not seen the best of him, he can still improve and become better but he’s giving me a lot of options to play him and his contribution is amazing.

“Today [Thursday] he started as a centre-back, he switched to the wing-back position, my left wing-back gets the cross in and my right wing-back scored the goal. It’s amazing how they did it today.”

  • This is The left footed centre back the Super Eagles team has been searching for. He isnt the finished product yet, still has to play maybe another season as a centre back consistently to master the position in order to play confidently on the National stage but he Is getting there. Playing in a fairly decent league, European club competitions and against European club heavy weights will surely help him sharpen his defensive skills. I think he is ready as a left full back but he is still learning the ropes as a centre back. By the time he masters that position, he will be a very good addition to any national team. I hope that team is the Super Eagles of Nigeria.

Looks like Eguavoen might add him to the list of players against Ghana.
He was watched by the SE coaches last night against Borussia Dortmund and he excelled.

Time to drop Jamilu Collins who is not up to it, IMO. Its now a toss up between Zaidu Sanusi and Calvin Bassey.

Bassey is showing maturity. He is useful to the Super Eagles.
