Rashford Plays Down Owen’s ‘Killer Instinct’ Claim

Marcus Rashford is confident that he will achieve his ambitions at Manchester United despite Michael Owen suggesting that he is not a natural goalscorer.

Former England international Owen, 39, offered his opinion on the 21-year-old Red Devils’ forward ahead of the Three Lions’ Euro 2020 qualification clash against Bulgaria Saturday.
And, while Rashford has a steady rate of goals for United – 47 in 174 appearances – including two from four Premier League outings this term, Owen does not believe that he possesses the “killer instinct” which top strikers have.

The youngster has also scored seven goals in 32 games for England, but Owen said: “I don’t think he is obsessed with goals. He is a better all-round player than me, he has a great touch and all round skill that I never had, but he hasn’t got the killer instinct that I had.”

When quizzed for his thoughts on Owen’s opinion about his prowess in front of goal, Rashford said: “He [Owen] can only go on what he sees. Whereas the people around me [know].

Especially when I was younger, the reason why you start playing is because you see things that you like and for me, it was goals and watching exciting people doing exciting things with the ball.”

Rashford added that he knows what he would like to become and he has every confidence of achieving that “if I keep my mind on it”.
United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer clearly has belief in him as a striker, having sanctioned the sale of Romelu Lukaku to Inter Milan.

It leaves Rashford and Anthony Martial as the main forwards at Old Trafford this season and the pressure will be on for him to double last season’s tally of ten goals.
Meanwhile, Rashford revealed that working with Tottenham striker Harry Kane in the England camp is also helping him improve his game.

He described the Three Lions’ skipper as one of the best finishers that he has worked with and tries to match him in training sessions.
