Real Madrid have turned down a request to leave from Sergio Ramos, who is keen to head to China on a free transfer. The Real captain is under contract until the summer of 2021, but asked club president Florentino Perez if he could be released from it so he could move to China.

The 33-year-old and his agent revealed that an unnamed Chinese Super League team were keen to do a deal but were unable to offer a fee. Perez ruled out the move and told Ramos he would not be allowed to leave on a free transfer. “I told Ramos that it was impossible for Real Madrid to let their captain go for free,” he said.
“They came to see me at the office and they told me that they had a very good offer from China but that the rules there do not allow them to pay the transfer.” There is interest from elsewhere, with English Premier League giants Manchester United also rumoured to be weighing up an offer, and he could be keen on such a move.
