Reports are rife that Klopp is ready to make a fresh approach for long-term target McCarthy, who may jump at a move after losing his place in the side at St Mary’s. McCarthy began the season as Saints’ number one, but lost his place to youngster Angus Gunn and he could struggle to get it back in the new campaign.

Liverpool have raided Southampton on a host of occasions in the past, and it looks as though another swoop could be on the cards for McCarthy.
