Rodgers Backs Ndidi To Shine In Centre-Back Role Again

Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers has backed Wilfred Ndidi to further thrive in the centre-back role following his impressive performance against West Bromwich Albion last weekend, reports Completesports.com.

The midfielder was drafted into the centre-back role in Leicester City’s opening day win against the Baggies at the Hawthorns.

Ndidi paired Caglar Soyuncu at the heart of the Foxes’ defence following the unavailability of Jonny Evans, Wes Morgan and Filip Benkovic.

The former Genk star gave a good account of himself in the encounter, making 105 touches and had 88% successful pass rate to help his side keep a clean sheet.

Rodgers is eager to see the Nigeria international return to his defensive midfield role, but is however confident Ndidi will perform well again against Burnley this weekend.

“Wilf is a player I have real confidence in. He played the position very well. He’s got the attributes to play there. He’s one of the best defensive midfield players, but stepping back, I thought he did very well,” Rodgers told a press conference on Friday.

”We don’t want him to be there for a long period of time. But I have trust in him to give his all.”

I think it is time for Ndidi to find another club

  • This is a ridicule…Find another club

  • Ogah don’t come and be changing someone’s position when he is performing at his best. Ndidi don’t go that road, learn from what happen to fernandinho. Start forcing errors so he can move u back to your normal position.

  • It has happen, I said it last week, ndidi shd concede own goal joor ,which kind yeye thing be this?

  • He who pays the piper dictates the tune. I want to believe that the reason Ndidi is featuring in CB is because of the unavailability of the clubs usual CBDs. While I feel he should be playing in his natural position, playing as a CB for a few games is not the worst thing for a player who mostly functions as a DM. He will surely return back to his normal position, but for now let him show his versatility to the whole world and excel as a CD. GO WILF GO!
