Rodgers Makes Lookman Admission After Leicester Home Draw Vs Brentford

Leicester City manager, Brendan Rodgers, has admitted that Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman’s presence would have given the Foxes the edge over Brentford in their Premier League opener on Sunday.

Leicester surrendered a 2-0 lead to draw 2-2 with Brentford at the King Power Stadium.

Rodgers’ side went into the break 2-0 ahead with goals from Timothy Casatagne and Kieran Dewsbury-Hall.

In the second half Ivan Toney pulled one back for Brentford in the 62nd minute before Jay Dasilva made it 2-2 in the 86th minute.

Lookman featured for Leicester on loan from RB Leipzig last season but has now joined Serie A club Atalanta on a permanent transfer.

And reacting to his side’s draw Rodgers, quoted on Leicester Mercury, said:”At this moment in time, I would say no,” when asked of the possibility of a new signing.

“That was the frustration for us with Barnes out, we don’t have a direct replacement. I would have loved to have signed Ademola who great here last season and got over 10 goals and assists but we weren’t able to do that.

“Unfortunately that means we then have to look at the squad and the team and try to adapt, and then put them out to be as organised as they can be.

“For 60-65 minutes we were excellent in the game, in total control of it, played really well, our pressing was good, our football was terrific.

“It’s a huge credit to the players, because we worked on something for five weeks in preseason, then in the last game here, we had a couple of injuries, we didn’t have replacement (for Barnes) to come in, so we had to change the structure, and I had thought the players played it really well.”

Lookman scored six goals in 26 Premier League appearances last season.

He has scored one goal in four appearances for the Super Eagles of Nigeria.

Leicester City are currently 11th in the Premier League with one point after matchday one.
