Rohr Backs Super Eagles To Do Well In 2022 World Cup Qualifiers

Rohr Backs Super Eagles To Do Well In 2022 World Cup Qualifiers

Gernot Rohr has expressed confidence the Super Eagles will replicate their 2021 AFCON qualifying feat when the race for the 2022 FIFA World Cup kick-off in June this year.

The Eagles secured qualification for the 2021 AFCON with two games to spare last weekend.

In the 2022 World Cup qualifiers, the Eagles are in Group C with Cape Verde, Central African Republic and Liberia.

And following their impressive run in the AFCON qualifiers, where they won four and drew two games, Rohr is optimistic of another good outing from his players.

“The World Cup qualifiers will start soon and I think we will be able to do well,” he said.

“Nigerians should expect good football again and on a good pitch I hope. Lagos did very well but they still have to improve especially in the area of traffic.

“It’s going to be a serious World Cup qualification. The record of our results are very good and I know we were unbeaten in all our away games (during the AFCON qualifiers) which is wonderful and very nice.

“We have to continue because we want to be always the best but at the same time you can’t win all your matches.”

Reflecting on his Eagles game against Lesotho, the German tactician said:”The result of our last match against Lesotho was a good result. To win 3-0 is always a good result without conceding  a goal we wanted to become more solid after our two games  in November and now we did two clean sheets which is very good for the stability of the team, for the balance of the team. Also scoring three goals which did not come from setpiece is also very interesting.”

And on why the likes of Maduka Okoye, Ola Aina and Joe Aribo did not feature against Lesotho:”Maduka Okoye was sick in the last moment. He had stomach problem he could not play he had to stay in the hotel but he is much better now.

“So we had to change five players with the goalkeeper with Ola Aina who was a little bit injured and tired from the Benin game and Alex Iwobi came in for Henry and also Aribo who was sick same like Okoye stomach problem who was replaced by Etebo.”

    • @Olu.

I love your prediction just for one reason….

Each time u predict against SE it always turns for our favor.

E.g was seen when OMOTOYOSSI was bragging on how SE will fall at PORT NOVO and u supported him only to end up in tears for the Beninese.

      Pls keep predicting against SE….
It helps us a lot, thankiu…

As for this your prediction, i’ve save it for future purpose…

Super eagles are the man city of Africa. Do well in qualifications, but when it comes to major tournaments they flop hard, whether its world cup or cup of nations. The lineup is to inconsistent so many players in and out, its not really creating a relations and or partnership with other players.

There are a lot of players with 3 or less call ups like Peter Olayinka, Emmanuel Denis, Josh Maja, Kayode who did well in the Europa league group stages with 4 goals in European competitions. Zaidu Sanusi, Leon Balogun, Joe Aribo, Samuel Chukwueze, Kelechi and Ndidi are people who had impact in European competitions. There is 5-8 goal keepers in the background waiting. That sends a message to me that the goal keeper situation is not good, not consistent and not trusted.

There tends to be ethnic biased in recruiting as well in my observation. Nigeria having over 200 different tribes, Igbos make up half of the super eagles lineup yet they are the third most populated tribe in Nigeria, it just doesn’t make sense. There was an article of Rohr saying Pinnick gave him freedom to invite players. Saying and doing are two different things and what im seeing is biasedness and little to no diversity. If not that its the recruitment of biracial/mixed players with a recently new additions with Maduka Okoye and Kevin Akpoguma.

The fans can be misleading as well, they are ok with a mediocre lineup and they get angry when the team lose. I learned from the 2018 world cup to last cup of nations on what happen to Ighalo. He had to leave because of the constant abuse he received from the Nigerian people, yet he was their leading scorer who still had a lot more to offer and was mature. Im looking at other national teams and the younger players are scoring more goals than the young players of super eagles. Osimhen could be that guy but he is so fragile, he needs to build muscle or he will be out muscled and break easily.

The defense is good with Ola Aina, Ekong, Ajayi and Sanusi. Chidozie and his big head keeps creating own goals, like I lost count. In Porto he is loaned out and replaced by Sanusi. People know the problem is the midfield, some of these players do well in their club but when they come to super eagles its just flashes, no end product. Im just waiting until this team is found out and a bust.

      start winning just watch

    • Not every comment deserves a response, because most of them (like the one top) makes no sense whatsoever

It seems you don’t have brain, bringing ethnicity and qouta system in our national team , mallams will always be a mallam!!..football is played with talent , no Nigerian will ever advocate to include his tribes man into our national team if he is not good enough!!!..Foorbat is the only thing that bind us together in this evil marriage!!…I don’t think you have better players from your tribe that could replace Okocha, Kanu, Mikel, Ihenacho etc , they are there because they are good enough and not because of they are Igbos …so shut up you faggat!!

Maduke Okoye, Samuel Kalu, Wilfred Ndidi, Kelechi, Paul Onuachu, Chidozie Awaziem, Alex Iwobi, Samuel Chukwueze, Henry Onyekuru. Igbo’s are the better footballers tha’ts why. A lot of people wont like your comment, this place is mostly filled with Igbo’s
Stop it and embrace it, they are the better footballers. They are carrying this team, the proof is in the pudding. The team will start winning just watch.

Imagine what will happen if your type gets a political appointment in the country. You are just an exact replica of our clueless president who has placed tribalism, nepotism ahead of merit and has a result has dragged everybody including you into a very big mess that we won’t be free from in the next 2 decades. If rohr was a nigerian, it would’ve been a different case but he is white and absolutely doesn’t know anything about tribe or ethnic group. All he wants is the success of his job hence the unbiased invitations he has handed out to players that deserve it. For your information, the super eagles is the only institution that is working in nigeria bcs of good management. Very pitiful that someone like you still exist in this age. You even believe what the rigged population figures tell u that Igbos make up only a third of our population. Very funny. For your information, Igbos are one of the most populous tribes in nigeria. You can find an igbo man at home and almost in any part of the country but the same cannot be said of other tribes. U need help.

  • You will wait in vain. Instead of wasting your time waiting for the team’s failure, I will advise you to move!!! or you will be disappointed once again……..just like you were disappointed three days ago when Nigeria qualified for AFCON.

I found it difficult to comment or reply peoples comment here because some just write without taking a second look at there write-up. How on Earth can you mixed football with ethnicity. Soccer is the only weapon that keeps us together… please my brother stop saying this kind of words during this trying period of our dear nation Nigeria.
Football unite Nigeria, wether hausa or Yoruba or Igbo what we want and pray for is a good player that can add value to super eagle success.
