Rohr: My Eagles Are 69% Ready For AFCON

After recording back to back wins over Seychelles and Egypt in four days, Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr believes his team is 69% prepared for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations reports Completesports.com.

The Super Eagles defeated the Pirates of Seychelles 3-1 in their final 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match in Asaba last Friday and edged Egypt 1-0 on Tuesday thanks to a wonderful strike from Paul
Onuachu eight seconds into the game.

“The match was a great match for us and when you play a great team like Egypt which for me are one of the favorite for the AFCON and win it’s good,” Rohr said in his post-match interview.

“All the time we must improve but let us enjoy this wonderful moment.”

“We scored a wonderful goal. Tomorrow we will analyse this game and go back to work on the team we have to make them better. I think the team is 70% ready but I like the number 69.”

“We decided to make a fast start. It was a planned goal from the kickoff. We have a tall striker from Denmark (Onuachu), he did very well but he has to improve still.”

“We made five changes with two local players making their debut. It will be good for them and their career.”

“What was interesting for me also in Asaba was that we had three wonderful victories. First, we beat Seychelles they the U23 team also trounced Libya and now we beat Egypt. So it was a good week for us.”

Rohr who qualified the Super Eagles for the AFCON tournament billed to hold from June 15th to 13th July in Egypt with a game to spare having missed out on the last two editions also ruled out inviting new
players to the team ahead of the forthcoming AFCON.

Rohr recently handed debut invitation to Paul Onuachu, Valentine Ozornwafor, Ikouwen Udoh and David Okereke to the senior national team but assured that he will continue to scout for more players for
the team.

“Window for new player invitations to Super Eagles is closed. We will continue to scout but no new invitations for Africa Cup Of Nations.”

Meanwhile, the Super Eagles of Nigeria will play two friendlies in the next FIFA free window in June in preparation for the tournament.

The next FIFA free window is billed to hold from June 3rd to the 11th, according to the FIFA calendar for 2019.

“We decided to make a fast start. It was a planned goal from the kickoff. We have a tall striker from Denmark (Onuachu), he did very well but he has to improve still.”

I’m still shaking my head for you Mr. Rohr. So you beat Egypt without their full squad still, you are proud of your young team now bah? Your disciples are celebrating every where now lol and also believed that you will win the championship, I hope so.

This coach is funny. Did you know how long it took your Ighalo to started scoring goals against smaller teams in Africa?

This match was Paul Onuachu second match on that uncomfortable pitch and still he managed to scored the only goal of the match and you are still complaining while your Ighalo can’t even score half goal bah?

Did you complained like this when your Ighalo was misfiring in Russia?

Say whatever you like now sir. I know very well that June is around the corner then, I will see your true color. I will support you as a Nigerian but I don’t trust you except you proof your level in Africa and out the continent. It is well. God bless Nigeria!!!

    • Enjoy the back to back wins for a second nah!!
The last time the Super Eagles beat Egypt was 29 years ago. Twenty nine years ago. 1990 to be precise. In that time we have lost three times and drawn three times.

Egypt were without Salah, we were without Ahmed Musa as well.

It is possible with the results (against Seychelles and Egypt that we leapfrog Morocco to third in Africa with only Tunisia and Senegal ahead of us. It’s possible. We await the next FIFA rankings, or if it’s too late to include these results, then the April FIFA rankings.

But whilst we await the next international matches, me I’m going to enjoy the three out of four victories of the past week. I suggest you do as well.

Our under 23 squad is solid, our Super Eagles squad is solid fingers crossed or under 17s “do something” next month and the under 20s also do something.

    • What is it with this your obsession with the coach? Why don’t you just wish him well? Even CR7 will continue to improve, why won’t Paul improve? You Thought Nigeria will fall scandalously but they prevailed, pls enjoy the moment.

You see i wasnt lying when i said some people wake up every morning and the only prayer on their lips is…”God, let Rohr lose his next match so that i can experience happiness in my life even if its just once”

My concern is the kind of coach Nigeria has. With him we scaled the bar by being the first team to qualify for AFCON in Africa, even with one game to be played. Good. A good coach should have encouraged his team by rating them high. Rather, we see this diffident coach painting Eagles as having no chance to win AFCON.He went under by using a bogus FIFA rating to discourage his team. When does rating win competition? Occasions have been seen when debutants won in competitions, largely through good preparation and psychological beefing of players. It’s high time Amaju Pinnick & his board mandates the lilly-livered Rhor to bring home AFCON cup. He should be sacked outrightly if he doesn’t. We need a real coach, not a fluke.

  • PapaFem 5 years ago

When will our fans quit being hateful? What exactly do u want from this man? What? So, all these achievements came by chance? We qualified for Russia WQ with a game to spare. We qualified for AFCON with a game to spare. And that’s after losing the first qualifying match and missing out on the previous two editions with your favourite coaches. Now, Egypt was beaten for the first time in 29 years. In the group of death at the WC, we almost made it out. So sad some people wont stop hating on others. You are not wiser than the NFF that left him after the WC. And your opinion won’t stop him from achieving more. Except you are looking for Pep Guardiola or Jose Mourinho, this coach has done nothing wrong to be sacked. If you said Egypt was not complete, check Nigeria’s first 11 against the Pharaohs too. No Ahmed Musa. No Ighalo. No Balogun. No Mikel. No Uzoho. No Kalu. And those that came in for them did superbly well. This is to show how much work he has put in to give depth to this team. Remember the likes of Chukwueze, Osimhen, and Nwakali. Fantastic prospects emerging from the U-23. Pls keep quiet if u can’t support him because you won’t expect the NFF to change him when it’s 3 months to AFCON

I love your submission keep it up. As for the rest of the Rohr hateful bigot in the house, just know Rohr is the best coach we have now in this union called Nigeria. And one suppered thing about this coach he keep underrating is players, even when the beat the so called power house, is only the Moroccan coach that knows that our team is great and Rohr is playing mind games when he keep underrating the team

  • Omo9ja 5 years ago

This is quite unfortunate that someone of us have bn brainwashed about coach Rohr issue. The coach himself said it clearly that Semi final is the highest position he can reach and some of us calling it mind game? We thank God if we go far in Egypt.

We qualified to the last World cup with a game to spare. Hmmm…. interesting. So sad to hear this from Nigerians. If I may ask, is 1 over 3 is a good result?

Is 1 over 100 is a great achievement? That is why Nigerians stocks in this situation of not having good roads electricity, security, equal rights and respect they deserved.

What is the purpose of bn qualified to a tournament without a tangible achievement and I’m pointing this out and some groups of people here calling that hate?

Are you guys kidding me? What kind of this Country is this? Why Nigerians always celebrating failure while others Countries are moving forward tremendously in everything? When are we going to put an end to this, I don’t know. No wonder Mr. President called our youths lazy individuals smart and intelligent Nigerian youths.

I don’t want the coach to repeat the same mistakes he has been making over and over in this year Afcon in Egypt that’s why Nigerian fans are superior over any group of people, coaches or NFF board members because
We hired we fired and our voices must be heard.

Tactically, the coach is struggling and he has no solution to that while our opponents are watching. Sometimes, he makes wrong substitutions and late subs. These are the areas I’m pointing out for him to fixed before the tournament but you guys calling that hate? I don’t even know if some of us here know the definition of hate? No wonder we have so many Woleshoyinkas on this forum lol.

Some of us have to change their thinking. Oh well. Can any of coach Rohr follower can boldly say Nigeria will beat Egypt this Egyptian team again when the tournament starts in June?

This is what what happened against Argentina. Argentina were beaten during the friendly match but in Russia what happened if I may ask?

    Simple arithmetic. 1 + 1 = 2

Call me whatever name you like. Before or during the tournament, you guys will know the truth. I don’t think none of these people loves coach than I do but that is not the case here.

My Country comes first. Just don’t know why, I love my Country very much and I hope you do too? If yes, let’s put sentiments apart and let’s put our hearts together, so that we can achieve our goals in Egypt and beyond. Do have a blessed day my people.Ire o. God bless Nigeria!!!

Sorry for my errors. Edit button is needed on this forum CSN for God sake. I appreciate your efforts, please and many thanks to you.

@Dele, it shall be well with you bro. Truth is hurt o bro but Nigerians doesn’t like to hear it. Oodabo. God bless Nigeria!!!

  • It victory time anyway.and there is time for everything. Good aura in the air . But a time to cry could come up if proper planning is not done. London football Olympic as a pointer or evidence. When eagles ve all d best players spread round d world but their clubs could not release dem to help 8n the African qualiers thereby missed out of d 2012 football Olympic games. So nff shud watch out. Dat is for d u 23. Eagles. 2018 football Olympic co8ld be a mirage if not properly planned 4 .
For d senior eagles I can see a team over working for d dribbling spaces . OKOCHA etIm esin would go pass 4 players with a dummy. But with d eagles I see d struggle to do dat with a combination of 4 player trying to do same. Dat means a with dis 10 10s on the team on ur side yu are having 14 players on in ur team.
Dat is d determinant factor for going far in a competition where d team wil be playing 5 to 6 matches.
So rohr can still tell his agent spread all over d world to look for a player dat can do same with ease . I believe one his hidoing somewhere in ajegunle , in zambisa in orlu in ossomala in ipesi akoko in oyo in oshogbo in daura or outside d country in Germany or English dat can do acrobatic foto ball for d eagles.
Do mind my errors. On transit flight away.

  • I don’t know how a sane soccer loving Nigerian will be supporting this coach, a man that was sack both in Niger and Gabon. He is only achieving the limited success because he’s coaching Nigeria because of our talented players. Take uzoho for instance, what has the guy done in his career to justify being Nigeria’s number one goalkeeper? I’m not hating on the man, but if rohr is open minded, our super eagles will be more stronger than it is right now. I will be supporting the team at afcon but with this man as our coach ….. God help us

  • We are Nigeria for Christ sake, how can we be going to an Africa tournament and our coach will be saying we have no chance of winning because our team is young, and this is a competition we have won on three occasions. I don’t want to hear it’s a mind game, the man just show himself up. He is not winner.

  • Its a free world jare any body can say anything about the coach! Even most of us here are not good with what we do as careers. We post rubbish most of the time and blame it on edit button, I want to write prove to me but I wrote proof to me, let’s cut the coach some slack pls

  • Mr Hush 5 years ago

You keep saying you Love your country but you never see good in your country.so tell me,how do that add up?
For me,you are a pessimist; and no I am not calling you names,I am just stating the obvious, you don’t need a profiler to see a critic who criticize everything negatively for the sake of it..

To come to your ill thought out criticism;I don’t understand how bad politics of a government related to football. You do know Brazil has won more world cups than the USA and Brazil is so corrupt that her three last president has been trailed for corruption, racism is high, and basic infrastructure is lacking.yet, they play good football..so keep politics and Buhari out of football

We qualified for the last world cup with a game to spare,I wonder how that is failure?you do know we only lost two games at that World Cup,against the World Cup finalist;Croatia and against Argentina with the world best, who lost out only to the World Cup finalist and the World Cup winner.so I don’t understand your 1/3 here..

Coming to Rohr; I think if you understand what mind, games are,you would know you are already caught in Rohr’s mind games.you don’t believe me?here you are ,on a daily basis ,criticizing him, calling him a failure, yet he gets results..
Yes,the coach is overly humble and calculative with his words,it what we call pre- damage control;you don’t overwork your psyche before you do the action,it is counter productive.you let your psyche take charge and do the action, then words come later, that’s how it should be.Rohr is trying to stay calm,so we don’t cocky and carried away,it is best that way.everyone that has won the last 4 nations cup, maybe except Ivory Coast,no one really saw coming, they might be amongst the favourite but not really favourite.from zambia to Kenshi”s Nigeria,to Cameroon..so Rohr is just playing safe.when we get to the Semifinals,we take it from there.

And I don’t know what you mean about Rohr been tactitically bad.the results speaks otherwise. The last time Nigeria lost was to Argentina, that same Argentina just beat Morocco last night in front of their fans.Yes,favourites Morocco;and they did it without Messi.Rohr hasn’t lost to an African opposition going to two years now and you think he is tactically bad??
and no this isn’t been Wole Soyinkaism(I don’t know what that means) cause I doubt if Wole Soyinka likes football and trust me,English language doesn’t play football..
About Egypt and the future game .no one knows the future;but I am certain we would beat this Egypt team again and again if we meet .not because I am emotional, just because the results say so.you are as good as your last game;and our last game we just beat them, and no,Egypt isn’t Argentina.
Besides, how do you know we are going to meet them again,we might not cross path for another years,so please savour this moment and enjoy this win.how many Africa nations can say,we have beaten Egypt and Argentina too..so yes,for Rohr,1+1= 2…

To end it,I think you are the one been too emotional that you fail to see what’s in front of you.you are blinded by your disgust for Rohr, that nothing he achieves make sense to you.believe me,even if Rohr wins the nations cup,you would still see some faults.
Most Nigerians are emotional,it is ok to be about your country, but emotions without logic is wrong.and I think you aren’t been logical, but what do I know;maybe you are logical ,after all,Everyone’s logic has his/her limits…
My advise, live in the now, enjoy it and when tomorrow comes we shall succeed, cause we already appreciate today to be psychologically and physically ready for tomorrow…
After all, football is played in the now..
And facts don’t care about emotions…

      .
Responding to Omo9ja on this forum is akin to running naked after a madman who stole your clothes from the bathroom….it would be difficult to tell who is who between the two.
      .
Rohr is struggling tactically and he’s undefeated in Africa in 20 matches plus bar his first only only loss in Uyo. He’s struggling tactically, yet we’ve scored in every half of close to 90% of the games he has won, he doesnt know how to make substitutions yet no team has come from behind to win nigeria since he took over. He isnt sound tactically, yet we have played cameroun, algeria, senegal, Egypt, DRC, Zambia….all in the top 8-10 in africa in the last 2 years and haven’t lost….weve played 3 north African teams and triumphed. I pray his not being tactical eventually lands as the AFCON.

  • I am a little disappointed with what Rohr said.

69% ready for the Africa Cup of Nations at this stage can be read in two ways:

    1) Assuming the Cup of Nations was to commence tomorrow, what Rohr is, in effect, saying is that his current squad with this level of preparation, exposure and quality should only be expected to reach the round of 16 or perhaps the quarter finals.

Think about it: 69% of 7 (the total number of matches that the Super Eagles will play from the group stages to either the final or 3rd place play-off) is 4.8. Meaning a second round (at worst) or quarter-finals (at best) performance.

Having managed no less than 30 games for Nigeria since 2016 with the World Cup as a mammoth experience, being 69% ready for the Afcon in less than 2 and a half months to go is not a very morale-boosting statement to make in my humble opinion.

Having said that, let’s flip the coin and look at Rohr’s statement from another perspective. If truly his team is 69% ready now, then it makes sense that after the 2 friendly matches they will play prior to the tournament, they will be 89% ready.

Using the logic in his statement, at that point, his team will be expected to reach the semi-finals and lose at that stage (89% of 7 is 6.3 matches).

Still not altogether inspiring but better than the earlier odds.

    To be continued…

  • We are Nigeria for Christ sake, how can we be going to an African tournament and our coach will be saying we have no chance of winning; and this is a competition we have won on three occasions previously. Don’t tell me it’s a mind game, the man just show himself up, he is not a winner. That is why he was sack both in Niger republic and Gabon.

    • Mr hush 5 years ago

      Bro..
       Niger?Gabon?
Nobody can do anything with Niger and Gabon.
Albeit, and I am not Rohr’s advocate ,but he qualified Niger for the nations cup, that is something special, since Niger hasn’t qualified for like forever till then.and for Gabon, tell me which coach last in Gabon..they have organizational problems;even The former Spanish coach ,Camucho, couldn’t do much and their star players keeps skipping games cause of this organizational crisis.Gabon is a dilemma.

And yes we are Nigeria, doesn’t mean you should be arrogant.in fact,it is the more reason we should be humble.you know we can win it,I know we can win it,I am sure Rohr knows we can win it as well, but he has to be magnanimous in his words not to sound cocky.remember, there is still Egypt,Senegal,Morocco ,Cameroon,Ghana,no push overs..

And do you know what Kenshi said before the nations cup that we won,
He said,I am going to the nations cup with a blend of new players ,young and exciting,so we would take every game as it comes..

So let’s take every game as it comes …

Besides, not everyone is a good orator..

  • That’s true, Rohr is not a winner but has won some matches Including that of yesterday.
The funniest thing about u people is that..if we ask u to name alternative, u will name Siasa. Sia1 that had beaten Argentina with Messi 3 times (reverse was the case), Qualified for world cup and even qualifying for nation’s cup for fun abi?
@ deo, let’s see it this way, winning with a lone goal or conceeding after we might have scored 3 goals(No clean sheet) may be to rohr is 69% by the time we are ready, we’ll be winning like under 23..4-0, 2-0, 3-0 etc.i don’t care about what will happen next two months..at least for now..all I care about is what’s happening now.
Nobody is perfect, even as fans we request for some players that will come and fumble like Joel obi and co..now we wanted Onuachu and he performed. So for now…in Rohr I trust.

  • _Rohr vs Former Afcon winners_

I stand to be corrected but I don’t think there is any coach of Nigeria in the last 20 years that have faced the same number of previous Afcon winners that Rohr faced (and overcame) within just over a 3 year period.

From September 2016 to date, Gernot Rohr has tutored and led the Super Eagles against 5 previous Afcon winners across 9 matches winning 5, drawing 3 and losing 1.

These have been matches against Zambia, Algeria, Cameroon, South Africa and only yesterday Egypt; these behemoths of African Football!

All apart from Zambia have also featured at the World Cup (Zambia came second in Nigeria’s 2018 qualifying group, so in effect, Rohr stopped Zambia from featuring at the 2018 World Cup at a time they had the team and togetherness to qualify!).

So, from the 9 matches against giants of African Football who are former Afcon winners, Rohr has taken 18 points out of a possible 27 (67% winning rate); that is insane!

With that kind of record against such calibre of opponents, Rohr is truly humble by stating that his team is 69% ready for the Afcon.

Regardless of what he says, Rohr’s boys are favourites to lift this year’s Afcon.

However – and perhaps the reason for Rohr’s caution – is that there are still some areas of improvement for his squad.

The fact that he has acknowledged this is surely a step in the right direction.

  • Lazy youth, nigeria is the first african country i hv seen celebrating failure…no wonder we keep facing difficulties in this country…a coach dat was sack by not brazil, france, england, even africa powerhouses but by nijer and garbon abah! absence of de coach musa can qualify us for WCUP and AFCON as captain and reach semi final at wcup and win the afcon because of his right mindset, winning mentality, africa mentality. go nd look ahmed musa “prologues” u knw dat he has winning mentality. but rohr is a total failure, (predicting no)with de crop of huge talent at our disposal yet declaring semi final for his team…wrong sub and late sub abah! … GOD help us.

  • Correction

****So, from the 9 matches against giants of African Football who are former Afcon winners, Rohr has taken 18 points out of a possible 27 (67% POSITIVE RESULTS rate); that is insane!***

5 win out of 9 against this African giants in about 3 years gives a win rate of 56% which is still crazy considering the quality of opponents we are talking about!

  • I have come to understand that in Nigeria, whether good or bad, there will always be someone or some people who will be vociferous in their opposition and refuse to come to a common ground with the people who have an alternative opinion.

Doesn’t matter if it’s sports, religion or politics, there will always be winners and those who cannot see anything right with the winner, and there will be losers and people who will see nothing wrong with the loser.

It’s futile trying to reason with them. The best way to deal with the situation is to provide stats that buttress your view point

Hahahahaha…your siasia couldnt even qualify for afcon…even when he was given another opportunity to redeem himself. The only coach that as ever gotten that kind of favour from NFF in this country….that was an A+ for you and this tells how far you have reached in life and ever since he hasnt gotten any job….u see ..no further progress for you in life. At least ive been to the world cup and even won a match and was almost eliminating the GOAT with barely 5 mins left, I came back home and qualified for another tournament again…with a game to spare and im set to go to another major tournament…..you cannot even qualify for nations cup after repeating the class.

Deo thank you Right back- Musa Mohammed Goal keeper- Ezenwa No10 Dennis B, the left wing should be Iwobi/Okereke/ Musa these are the areas that if fixed with the right people we will celebrate, as for NO9 I still don’t trust Ighalo against big teams except for penalty that even Ramos can score. For those saying Morocco lost Or Egypt lost or even Tunisia lost these teams paraded their fringe players Morocco had no Ziyach whos their main threat upfront Egypt no Salah, Tunisia No Sliti. I want the people jubilating to hold it because these North Africans are in to access their teamB when the tournament starts we will see who will dance galala! These are coaches with Brain just like Manu Garba went to an invitation tournament with his teamB then he made a comment that teams coming to study him will have no clue what is coming ahead of them when the main fiesta begins. Rohr is not bad but he is average and working under corrupt atmosphere that is why he can not say no to a bad stadium how then will he say no if they keep imposing Akpeyi and Uzoho to him or even Ighalo against Argentina when we needed to close things Omo we need brains when making submissions instead of fake statistics of he played these and that without winning any trophy or doing better at WC than his predecessors other than qualifying of which people have seen times without number I am sure he is thinking we are Niger that should be celebrating qualifying for World Cup or nations cup with one match to spare when even Madagascar did the same! Guys let’s be real in our way of life if we must solve problems before crying at the last minute thinking all is well.

Mumu talk. Siaone 11 vs Rohr 11. Go and work the maths yourself. The results are there for all to see. Siaone 11 had the likes of enyeama, Adeleye, Shittu, Odiah, Taiwo, Nsofor, Odemwingie, Ik Uche, Obasi, Mikel, Martins, Eneramo, kalu uche, yobo, joel obi…etc….all accomplished players with lots of experience….yet ma guy nor fit qualify for afcon even wen in last macth na for home…..LMAO

          Rohr’s trophy cabinet:
French Cup, Swiss Cup, French div 2 cup, UEFA Cup Silver medal
          .
          Siaisa’s trophy cabinet:
U-20 Afcon, U-20 WC silver, U-23 Afcon, U-23 Olympic silver and bronze
          .

Jose pekerman that has won about 3 U20 world cup trophies is not even mentioned amongst great coaches, bonfrere jo and paul akono who won olympic golds dont come close to being coaching legends…..it is ur siasia who has been pillig up silver and bronze medals at youth cups but cannot qualify for ordinary nations cup in a group that had Madagascar, Ethiopia and guinea that you are worshiping. Let him even get a job first….3 years is too long for a supposedly excellent coach to be jobless. At least those who are not as excellent as him….the likes of eguavoen, amokachi and amuneke are making waves outside the shores of the country.

“Window for new player invitations to Super Eagles is closed. We will continue to scout but no new invitations for Africa Cup Of Nations.”
    .
This comment will make some people on this forum run mad. Their world class players playing in backwater leagues aint gonna be getting a look-in.
    .
This indeed is time for consolidation…..we’ve got 30-35 good Nigerian players currently whom no other Nigerian player is appreciably better than….take it or leave it. Every other one out of that group is either on the same level or even lower, than this provisional pool. So its time to make them play more matches together and blend into a team…that’s most important going forward

Mad dog we shall see who will play the right back or how Akpeyi and Uzoho will mount the post. So much energy and enthusiasm,a lot to also learn if we stop turning blind eye to good logic from others. Rohr always sounds modest. It’s ok if it is really inteded as ‘mind game’. But I hope it is just mind game and not lack of ambition. We will all need time to determine this, So for the time being, let’s cut him some slack and hope for the best. He has good results. My major concern with his modest utterances is my concern with the effects of negative confession. I believe words are powerful enough to create an experience of themselves on people. If I were to advise Rohr, I will tell him to look for a positive way to express his modesty.

  • It is the Chima and Dr Drey show everybody.

Step right up everybody. Don’t miss this chance of a lifetime to witness Mohammed Drey vs Chima Tyson.

    Step right up everybody,

    Step right up.

This is not to be missed.

Were any of you old enough to witness the rumble in the jungle or the thriller in Manilla.

All those will pale in comparison to this complete showdown in complete sports.

Two adults who have nothing better to do than upset this public space with meaningless arguments that only goes to show how silly they are..

Time and time again they duel as if quarreling is going to run out of fashion.

Haba! Wetin! Ki Lo de? Na only the 2 of you?

Disgrace to how we will like the image of Nigeria to be portrayed at home and abroad.

They remind me of all those silly Nigerians you meet on the plane who will seat on your seat (it happened to me) only to cause trouble and make a fool of themselves.

    Silly people.

    deo.

Chima was referring to me but I will turn the other cheek.

I really don’t care how Chima and Drey respond. They both seem to get something out of this endless feud…

A beg, let’s move on to others things Jare Bro. Bomboy.

I can see the how badly hatred is burning your stomach like hot coal in a steam boiler. You have nothing to educate members of this forum with other than to brag that you are living in europe and have access to free internet…LMAO…..and that Musa Muhammed must be invited to the before we can qualify from the AFCON group stage. I cant even remember when last you came to this forum a happy man, because Rohr is always pouring volumes of vinegar into you wine with sweet performance all over the place without your world class musa muhammed and isaac success…the two players that will single handedly hand the next world cup trophy to nigeria….LMAO
        Shame on you….!!!

  • Larry 5 years ago

I am really impressed with the constructive discussions on this forum. Actually, i used to be a fan of Mr.Rohr, i lost my faith in him the moment he named his squad for the last world cup. No sane coach will take a player to the world cup to compensate for mussing out in the last edition. We all sae what happened during and after the world cup. Trust me, Mikel and Moses have other reasons for staying away from this team.
I stand to be corrected, it seems to me that some shady and corrupt exchanges exist in SE management. Not long ago, one of the coaches was involved bribery and that should be a clarion call for proper investigation of SE affairs “No smoke without fire”.
Mr. Rohr needs to be sincere about his team selection and management. Enough of this “Young team” narrative, select the best players for each position. The late Stephen Keshi won the nations cup and took our team beyond the first round of world cup. He didn’t earn as much as you do. If you fail at the Nations cup, you will be gone like a goner, the nff can not stop it.

The current team needs at least 4 new players, a GK, two playmakers and a striker.

    • Ayphillydegreat 5 years ago

Don’t worry let him fail at the Nations Cup first. Guess what his team will be seeded and most likely top the group to play against a minnow in the round of 16 and make it to the quarterfinals at least.  If we make it to the quarterfinals that is not a failure considering the fact that we did not qualify for the last two AFCON. Ambotori SuperEagles are guaranteed to reach the semifinals which will be a massive achievement for this young team.

The fact of the matter as it stands at the moment, it’s glaringly clear that Rohrs SuperEagles are a favorite to win the AFCON in Egypt. However, he remains humble and optimistic that his young charges will take it game by game and see how we have progressed over the last 2 and half years.

  • Nigeria is suppose to be as brasil to south america…but here we re celebratin on only qualifications and with one game to spare….i dont like this new development…how can we be celebrating bcus we qualify with game to spare and wen the tournament come we fail to our height and come back home shamefully we will still be celebrating for our qualify as content…a place where madagascar and such are qualifying nigeria suppose to lift the trophy.

    • Ayphillydegreat 5 years ago

We have already lifted the trophy 3 times therefore, as Nigerians we know we can win the AFCON anytime the SuperEagles qualify for one of which we didn’t make it to the last two editions. I can’t the last time the SuperEagles qualifies for an AFCON with a game to spare that’s what we’re optimistic about. The last time we defeated Egypt was almost 30 years ago. We sure have a chance to win the AFCON, but the coach wants his players to remain grounded so as to achieve great things.

    • Dr. Drey 5 years ago

Thank God you wrote “supposed to be” and not that Nigeria is Brazil.
We sank so deep in football that we couldn’t even qualify for AFCON back to back. The last afcon we attended was 6 years ago. Out of 5 afcons since 2010 this will be just our 2nd appearance. We used to be ranked 14th in africa only a few years ago…The last time you could rank nigeria no 14 in africa should be in the 40s and 50s…No thanks to some coaches with zero track records of managing senior level football teams who took us 55yrs backwards. And you are here bragging all over the place as if the trophy is our birthright, wen we attend only 2 afcons in 9 years. We so much like to overate ourselves sha..!.
In steps a quiet gentle man who is doing his job without fuss….virtually raising a new team, flourishing with young blood and vigour, for us without even making the usual noise of “rebuilding” that the previous coaches used to tell us from 2002 to 2016 without any tangible team to show for it. We have not had any media scandals, or quarrels or fights within the team ever since. We have not had clashes between the FA and the coach, FA and Players, Players and Coach….no scandal what so ever. For the first time in a long while, we can see a pool of 30 players that can step up to the show whenever they are called up and we wont miss the other….for the first time in a long while we now have a team that can serve us for the next 8 – 10 years. We are now 4th in africa and would probably be third by the next ranking…..all these in 3 yrs. We didnt need calculators in both qualifying campaigns we prosecuted and even had to use our last matches as friendlies. Even if Rorh hasn’t won anything with the SE yet, since his only assignment has been the world cup thus far….he’s probably the first of all our foreign coaches whose first assignment was to prepare for the wold cup in 1 and a half years (apart from all those fire brigade ones we used to employ 3 months to the world cup). He might not have won anything yet….but the signs are there, the foundations are already laid…this generation will surely not pass without them winning anything. And while we are waiting patiently for that day to come, we will celebrate to the fullest every milestone we attain…we will celebrate every match we win….even against the fishermen teams. Its the sound of victory and we will dance to it.
Those of you who think unless your favored players (or the players you are representing here) are invited, the SE will not progress…..I’m glad to tell y’all YOU HAVE FAILED….!!!.

  • Mr hush 5 years ago

@Illuwa,Well,I think the reason we are celebrating is because  we actually missed two editions.we missed even while we were champions, coached by the “great Kenshi”,so I think with that notion, the celebration is in order..
Cause even great football nations like Italy are celebrating wins over Liechestein and Finland cause they missed the World Cup.the English are celebrating a good result against Macedonia…
The reason they celebrate is because of the development,it shows improvement.and that’s always positive.you can only beat what is in front of you..

And yes ,we should be like Brazil in South America, but you do know ,the only reason Brazil is always in the Copa America is because there is no qualification, due to the numbers of countries in South America..Brazil u-20 even failed to qualify for the World Cup..that aside ,when was the last time Brazil won the Copa America?? The last I checked Chile is champion ,as well as champion of the Copa centenaria, played by North and South America;Brazil  didn’t even get close to the semis..and Brazil couldn’t beat Panama just this weekend..so i believe TiTe is looking for a celebration…

    @larry
Yeah yeah; Keshi won the nations cup,but he wasn’t the first either and he was paid even more than the rest before him..so?
He took us to the second round, great,we have been there twice before..so nothing new either…
You do remember the state Keshi left the super eagles ,we were almost out of the nations cup,if not out,to Congo in Nigeria.not even the good Congo,Drc; weak Congo Brazzaville..
Keshi did great,he has his legacy, but a coach is only as good as his last game.that is coaches like Mourinho,Van Gaal,Wenger,Conte,Hassan shelhata of Egypt,Raba Madjer of Algeria,to name a few were all sacked ,forced to resign or let go even with their trophy cabinet .
Cause football is ugly that way..
You are as good as your last game…
So yes,Rohr deserve all the greetings he is getting;yes we need to improve,so does the best teams in the world;learning is a continuous process and to be number one,you have to work as hard like you are number two..
We aren’t there yet,but the signs are good..
So let’s keep working and be supportive as fans with critical but logical criticism.

And for why Mikel hasn’t shown up.
It is a personal thing.it has nothing to do with the team or management or football.Mikel is still hurt psychologically by the fact his father was kidnapped twice in this country and he bared all alone maturely.so he needs his time to build back his emotions.he is still very in ,and I believe he is still thinking about his next move, that’s why he didn’t really come out to retire.i am sure he would be at the cup of nations.
As for Moses; it is within Moses character to act the way he did.it is no ones fault but Moses being Moses. He has always had his reservations playing for Nigeria and he is non challant that way. He believes he has given all,won the nations cup, played at the World Cup,nothing more to give,so it is the best time.it is just Moses.going by the nff chairman ,he might still come back, but I think we are doing fine without him, although he is an added asset..

    So positive vibes ahead,
What happens in the future,we take it from there

  • mutum 5 years ago

we have a great pool of players presently no doubt! Any super eagles coach that that keeps playing Alex iwobi is not a coach….so rohr is not a coach! before them crucify me here, lemee ask a few question…how many assist those iwobi has for the eagles so far playing as a number 10, a number 10 that can’t shoot, can’t hold the ball and release those killer passes? I wonder if he can even score from am empty net self. or is it becos of his relationship with okocha?friend’s! this coach no eti…see how Samuel kalu broke into the team, simply becos rohr once managed bodeux and he is also ‘managing’ kalu presently. no doubt kalu is good oo. I rest ma case

    • Ayphillydegreat 5 years ago

I’m glad you said “no doubt Kalu is good o”. Kalu is one of Nigeria’s best discoveries in recent years. That is a fact. I agree with you that Iwobi should be moved to the left wing where he’s been lethal for Arsenal so far this season. In reality, the search for a true SuperEagles number 10 continues. However, Iwobi is a top top talent.

    • Dr. Drey 5 years ago

This same Iwobi used to be on the left wing in the SE, it was ‘I kno pass the coach’ kind of people like you that yelled that he should be playing 10…now he is playing tell you say any coach that plays him as 10 isnt a coach…I’ll really like to see how may of you here will apply for that job when a vacancy is available, bcos quite apparently, we have some world cup winning coaches in this CSN forum who are hiding their talents.
And for the records…Iwobi has had a hand in 13 goals in 28 matches for the eagles (5 goals, 2 assists and 6 key passes) this is apart from the one assist he should have had against SA in Johannesburg and Egypt in kaduna. 13 out of 28 is almost 50%.
That means Iwobi will have a hand in goals scored in every other game he plays for the SE. That is never a poor record in any sane person’s opinion

      • Mr Hush 5 years ago

        @mutum
I respect your opinion but I think it is far from the truth.
I think we forget so soon, and that’s typical of most fan..
You forget that it was Iwobi vital goal against Zambia at ththe first leg away, that gave us a vital victory, that began our quest to the world cup .
It was Iwobi’s vital goal against Same Zambia that took us to the World Cup.remember how tight locked that match was before he came in.
And it was the same Iwobi that gave us pride in the friendly against England when we were being totally overrun..
Not forgetting assist and goal against Argentina in the friendly .
Yes he had a bad game at Asaba.
Every player has had bad days.
But dont doubt his talent and his usefulness.

  • Effiong Godwin NSIKAN 5 years ago

Can any one outrightly tell us who will win the nations cup with full assurance? No… So that was why Rhor said it is only wise to stay humble… He is not ruling out the super eagles he his only being humble and not boastful.
