Super Eagles head coach Gernot Rohr has recalled the team’s captain John Mikel Obi and centre-back William Troost-Ekong for today’s 2019 Africa Cup of Nations Group B clash against the Barea of Madagascar, reports Completesports.com.
Both players started Nigeria’s opening game in the competition against Burundi but were left on the bench in Wednesday’s 1-0 win against the Syli Nationale of Guinea.
Rohr has also handed the trio of Ikechukwu Ezenwa, John Ogu and Samuel Kalu their first start of the competition.
Defenders; Chidozie Awaziem, Ola Aina and Leon Balogun as well as combative midfielder Oghenekaro Etebo were retained in the starting line-up from the previous game against Guinea.
Odion Ighalo will lead the team’s attack for the second consecutive. The Shanghai Shenhua of China forward will be flanked by Kalu and Ahmed Musa.

This shows how good this team is…the 1st 11 as good as the 2nd 11..
The line up is great.. You don’t make too much changes if you intend to retain the team chemistry.. Igaholo, musa and Mikel needs this game to boast their morale and confidence for the next round… You don’t look for extra players when your main ones are about gelling

Good line up except for starting Samuel Kalu which in my book is hazardous to risk this young mans life when we have players like Henry in the bench. But anyway in this context the love of the game is what comes first and i wish him the best of luck today.
This lineup is even more deadly than the first eleven. I think We have players that inform now. Up eagles, I wish you guys good luck. Go and make us proud.
A case could be made for some on the bench,eg Henry or Onuachu,but the coach’s argument will more or less balance things out.

It’s a good line up. I would have preferred chukwueze to miss today with onyekuru warming up to come in at least in the second half. I’ve always wanted to see osimhen but it appears he is still recuperating from injury. Madagascar appears to have a good and organised defence so we need to be brilliant in our attack. They appear to be good in scoring as they have scored more goals than Nigeria so far. we need to be careful in the defence. up eagles.
my main joy to watch this game is kalu and ezenwa…. i would hv like eze to try that no10 position again to be real alternative for that my inconsistent iwobi… if not for network problem between oga rohr and I, the best way is to bring osimhen for ighalo at 50 or 60mins and henry for musa at same mins, and eze for mikel at 65mins.

Madagascar wouldn’t be a walkover we must not underestimate them, we should try and do away with silly fouls outside the box, still I don’t see them taking any point from super Eagles
