Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr says he plans to hand opportunities to more new players to play for the Nigerian national team.
According to Rohr, the invitation will be for the next international friendly match to be organised for the Super Eagles on a convenient date between the competitive games during FIFA international windows of 2020.
“With the next FIFA window, we will already be in the qualifiers for the (2022) World Cup, so it will not be the moment to try new things with players we have never seen before,” Rohr said on Brila FM.
“You never know what can happen, we will see because I think before the FIFA [World Cup] qualifiers, we would have perhaps a friendly, this is the moment to test new players.”

The 26 top teams will now merge with the 14 that qualified from the First Round for the Second Round (Group Phase) comprising 10 group. The draw will be conducted on January 7, 2020.
The first and second rounds of games in the 2022 FIFA World Cup African qualifiers Second Round will be played between March 23 to 31, 2020.
After the 2022 World qualifying games in March, the Super Eagles will host Sierra Leone at home in their next 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier on August 31, 2020. And then travel to Freetown eight days later for the second leg clash.

I thought he indicated that he was happy with the players he is already working with.
In any event, healthy competition is good so established players don’t get complacent.
Good luck, coach!
He has really not changed what he said. His stand remains that he will not test new players that WE HAVE NOT SEEN before in any competitive match. So if NFF wants him to test new players then they should try to give him friendly matches, which is usually during the FiFA window.
But the next fifa window is not available for friendly match because it is already booked for 2022 world cup qualifiers, which is March ending. So from now till around middle of next year you most likely not going to see new fresh call ups.
Thanks for the clarification bro. That does put things in perspective.
Cheers.
With dis fifa new qualification format for 2022. It will be easier for a camel to pass through the eye of the needle Dan eagles to qualify for Quata 22. I m.sorry for saying the true.
Bro Olu, I understand your fears, but with due respect, Nigeria is the most talented team at the moment in Africa, look at the players, especially the strikers at our disposal. At the last AFCON in Egypt, many teams tried to avoid Nigeria including Ghana, go and revisit the stories, and you think we can’t qualified for world cup. Nigeria is more deadlier now than during the AFCON, with improved performance and more added deadly players in the squad, there is serious competition in the team, and is going to be difficult for any team in Africa to beat the super eagles. Just think about it, which country in African can withstand Nigeria attack in their backyard? I bet you , no team want to be grouped with Nigeria in their group.Watch out for AFCON 2021 in Cameroun, then you will see the kind of players in the team.
….just an addendum..!
“There are no more friendlies, so there is no more time to invite new players we don’t know,” Rohr told reporters at the Teslim Balogun Stadium on Wednesday .
“We need harmony in the team and if you are bringing in new players to do better for the team than they are doing now, which one do you want to push out of the team? Those players must be really better than what we have already.”

What if the old guys aren’t in top form
Wao, 2022 World cup qualifiers is already upon us. Thanks to the NFF for organising quality friendlies which have helped in solidifying the team after d AFCON but this is the time to consolidate by renewing the contract of Gernot Rohr. It will be suicidal to allow Coach Rohr negotiate with another country in January while the qualifiers start in March. The pains of missing d Olympic football is still very fresh in our minds and we can’t afford to toy with the 2022 Word cup ticket.
Brother please tell Amaju piknic and his yeye technical team ooo
Good one Gernot Rohr. No one player should be made to think time to relax. Every top quality Nigerian with that X factor has d right to stake a claim. All pretenders beware..No hiding place. God bless Gernot Rohr, God bless SE, God NFF n God bless our great country Nigeria, always proud to be.
@Glory GOD bless nff?.
Lets Just say that he is doing well, the stats proves it!! he has his hand with the Team where it should be , so far all he needs is encouragement to strengthen the areas that requires help , he does need a new contract to continue to move on , regardless of some factors that are calling for his removal , it should not be our priority. This man understands our corruptible culture and has been able to swim through it, we should not underestimate its advantage and the result so far in the Super Eagles. All the other teams are failing because of the corruptible nature of the coaches, thinking more about their pocket, rather than selecting the inform and quality players!! Nff think fast!!!
Good one, he has to invite more players, we need more competition in super Eagles, merits and consistency should be the determining factors in inviting players.
YOU have learned something unique from our oppressors coach Rohr. You are playing politics game here.
Before you said no more new players but now you will give new players a chance?
Like you did to Okoye, Alanpasun, Agbo, Onyekuru and so many others before now?
What is the purpose of having Oyinbo coach?
Is it a bad idea to have two teams for Nigeria at a time?
Late Amadu Shuaibu had two teams for Nigeria but our world class coach couldn’t manage a team.
Since he started coaching Super Eagles, why he has never gotten a trusted and reliable goalie?
How long did it take Mr. Olishe to find another goalkeeper to replaced Enyeama?
Three years ba?
A coach that prefers Ighalo to returned?
A coach that satisfied with Akpeyi performances and settled down for the man to carry on while we have others goalkeepers such as Osage, Okoye and so on.
Here in Nigeria, so many of us loved to celebrate average achievements.
He, coach Rohr invited Maja and other new players but in the end, how many minutes did they played?
Having Oga Rohr alone in charge of our team is like we are just wasting Super Eagles time.
What a waste of time. Okoye, he benched him. Maja, he benched him.
Agbo, he benched him. Onyekuru, he benched him. Osimhen, he benched him not until Ighalo was injured.
So, what is the purpose of having Oyinbo as our national coach?
A coach that can not providing us a solid team talkless of having team a and team b?
For him to find a good goalkeeper is a problem. For him to believe in his players, is another wahala. So therefore, what do we talking about here then?
Mr. Rohr and Mr. Amaju, Nigerians will soon ask you people the achievements of the Super Eagles team.
Our world class coach haven’t seen Adi, Ovia Ojaria, Osage and so many other players?
These sets of players can form Nigeria team B. Is it bad to have two teams ni?
That is why I said this is a digital time.
I’m so sorry for Nigerians and Super Eagles players. Nigerians won’t be bold enough to say we have achieved meaningful under coach Rohr while Super Eagles players won’t having a chance to show their talents.
I have said my own. In few years to come, you guys will remember me that I have warned you all. Ire o. God bless Nigeria!!!
Omo9ja.
I know you cant read and understand English properly, or maybe it is hatred that has padlocked your senses. Pls get someone to read these and explain it to you.
Coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Gernot Rohr says Bordeaux new sensation Josh Maja has always been a part of his plan even though he hasn’t made the squad of the team since the 2-2 draw against Ukraine in October.
Maja fired a hattrick for Bordeaux to help them to a 6-0 win over Nimes and Rohr who watched the forward in the game says he is now getting regular games which will no doubt help his cause to win a spot in the Super Eagles.
” Maja I said the last time need to get more games at Bordeaux. He is a young player who moved to a team in a different country and needed time and game to adjust. Now we all can see his quality and that is good for his career and also the Super Eagles”, Rohr said.
The coach further said he is not closing the door on new players making his team for the international round of games in March but they have to be better than the players in the team at the moment.
” No one is denying any player the chance to play for his country but the player has to be better than what we have and also be able to give us something different. Nigeria have lot of players abroad and that’s the situation a coach likes even the ones at home playing in the NPFL will get their chance if they do well”.
Coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Gernot Rohr isn’t on the same page with the president of the Nigeria Football Federation ( NFF) Amaju Pinnick on the need to lure QPR midfielder Ebere Eze to the Super Eagles of Nigeria, Owngoalnigeria.com can exclusively reveal.
While Pinnick is keen on having Eze play for the senior national team of Nigeria ahead of England where he is now a player of their U-21 team same can’t be said about Rohr who isn’t entirely convinced by the ability of the 20 year old.
Rohr instead has his sight on Ovie Ejaria, the former Nigeria U17 trainee who is on loan to English Championship side Reading from UEFA Champions League defending champions Liverpool, Owngoalnigeria.com can exclusively reveal.
According to findings by our editorial team, the coach has already established contact with the 20 year old who he feels will add something different to the Super Eagles midfield unlike Eze who tends to go missing without the ball.
Ejaria has been scouted by the coach and talks will be held with the forward after the busy festive period in England although it is believed that Ejaria who won the 2017 Under-20 World Cup with England is keen on switching allegiance to Nigeria.
@Drey, I won’t exchange words with you young man. You are very rude. Anyways, I was the that scouted Ejaria for coach Rohr.
Nigerians knew this Ejaria for how many years now and coach Rohr has been the coach of the Super Eagles team for how many years now? How come the coach didn’t say a single word before I did my introduction of this Ejaria?
You can see now that oga na master? I deserves some respect from you Drey.
You are here blabbing on this forum while I omo9ja discovered Aribo and scouted him for Oga Rohr.
You lied now that the coach scouted Ejaria? Really? 99% of the readers here knows that I was the one that introduced Ejaria.
Now I believed coach Rohr and others are reading our comments
If they are reading your comments here today, you should be ashamed of yourself as a Nigerian.
I’m proud of myself any day any time because I want the best for our Country and I love my Country to the core.
It’s good to be humble. Omo9ja, I thank God o. Don’t worry, you will learn from me because I’m a good role model. Young man, no matter how knowledgeable you are without bn humbled you are what? Ire o. God bless Nigerians!!!
Eyaa…pele Omo9ja. It is now I agree your brain box has problems.
So of all the 41 players below who have been called up to the SE this year 2019 alone, your brain cannot sort them in order of Team A or Team B….???

So Francis Uzoho is not a trusted and reliable goalie..? Because even craseman wey dey street know say na Francis be our No1 goalie home or abroad.
So when new players are invited, all the old ones who have been performing in the team should be thrown away…..? Ighalo that was top scorer in AFCON qualifiers should have been benched for Osimhen who had not scored in all the matches he had played for Nigeria b4 AFCON…? Or Osimhen that is now scoring should be dropped for you..? Or the New post AFCON partnerships in Defence, Midfield and Attack should be thrown away for all your agege and ajegunle players abi..?
So the SE that Ukraine and Brazil came to beg to play is not a solid team….The SE that has moved up 34 places in FIFA rankings in 3 yrs is a liquid team abi?
And later you will come here and say you dont hate Rohr…..yet you keep telling broad day light lies on regular basis as if the rest of the world is blind…?
Eyaa…Omo9ja, your village people are heartless….! Owo ti ba e finally. LMAO
Wow! Dr Drey, thanks so much for compiling all the players used thus far this year by Gernot Rohr into just one list; and what a list!
I really would not want to be in the shoes of Gernot Rohr: the decision to drop some of those players if majority are fit (and flying) will be a labour of painfulness!
Like I have said before, what is required is to harness this group of players to a cohesive force.
Now that the Nigeria Professional Football League is back up and running, I do hope Amaju Pinnick works with League’s LMC to help deliver a pool of players with will return our home based Super Eagles to a state where they can produce meaningful outings in Wafu and Chan competitions.
The future is bright indeed.
Thanks again for the list!
What a list! Team A, B & C can emerge from it. Team C players can face Lesotho and win. There is so much hope with the Super Eagles team but we should not be complacent and comfortable!
