The Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) has handed Cristiano Ronaldo a 30-day suspension following his premature departure from the national team camp after a reported rift with coach Jorge Jesus over his role in the squad.
The federation’s disciplinary council upheld the charge against the 41-year-old forward in full and imposed a fine of €255.

The panel found that Ronaldo intentionally committed an offense under Article 160(1) of the federation’s disciplinary regulations, which typically carries a suspension of one to six months for players who leave national team duties without authorization.
However, the disciplinary council considered mitigating factors presented by the player’s legal team, including his historic career honors and a public apology issued on October 6, 2026, in which he expressed remorse for leaving his teammates and failing to acknowledge supporters.

The official ruling reads: “On these grounds… the Disciplinary Council decides… to uphold the charges in full and, consequently, convict the Defendant Cristiano Ronaldo dos Santos Aveiro of committing, once and intentionally, the disciplinary offense provided for and sanctioned by Article 160(1) of the RDFPF, consequently imposing a 30-day suspension and, additionally, a fine set at 2.5 UC, that is, €255.00.”
While the statement did not specify which exact fixtures or activities the ban will cover, or whether provisional time served will count toward the sanction, Portuguese FA President Pedro Proença has emphasized that the federation hopes to see Ronaldo return once the matter is resolved. For his part, the veteran forward has confirmed he remains available for selection once his punishment is served.
