Southampton are ready to join the fight to sign Montpellier defender Ruben Aguilar, according to reports.
Saints boss Ralph Hasenhuttl is thought to be keeping tabs on the market with current right-back Cedric Soares heavily linked with a summer move away from St Mary’s.
As a result, a move for Aguilar could be on the agenda before the transfer window closes, with the 26-year-old Frenchman enjoying a successful Ligue 1 campaign last time out as he helped Montpellier concede just 42 goals in 38 games, while providing five assists from defence in 29 appearances.
The former Auxerre stopper has attracted plenty of attention from around Europe, with several English clubs thought to be vying for his signature.
In addition to the Saints, Brighton are reported to be pondering a move as boss Graham Potter looks to replace the retired Bruno Saltor, while Crystal Palace are in the market for a right-back after selling Aaron Wan-Bissaka to Manchester United in a £50million deal.
