Saka, De Bruyne, Mane, Van Dijk Nominated For PFA Player Of The Season Awards

Bukayo Saka, Manchester City’s Kevin de Bruyne and Liverpool duo Sadio Mane and Virgil van Dijk are among nominees for the 2019/2020 PFA Player of the season awards, Completesports.com reports.

The shortlists for the award which is in different categories was announced on the PFA’s verified Twitter handle on Friday.

Saka, 18, is in a five-man shortlist for the PFA Young Player of the Year category that also include Mason Greenwood and Marcus Rashford both from Manchester United, Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold and Tammy Abraham of Chelsea.

It was a memorable season for Saka who had 12 assists and four goals and capped it with Arsenal’s third best player last campaign.

For the PFA Player of the Year award players from Manchester City and league champions Liverpool dominate the confirmed six-man shortlist.

While De Bruyne and Raheem Sterling are the only only players from City, Liverpool quartet of Van Dijk, Mane, Jordan Henderson and Alexander-Arnold made the list.

It would be recalled that Henderson was voted the Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year while De Bruyne was awarded Premier League Player of the Season.

Also, shortlists for the women’s Player of the Year and women’s Young Player awards were announced.

Winners in all the categories will be announced next Tuesday, September 8, at 7pm.

  • Saka is obviously highly rated, sad he’s still dithering on his SE invitation card.

    Interesting to see 2 Nigerian bloods in a shortlist of 5 for PFA Young Player of the Season award. But Southgate keeps poaching everything poachable, cap-tie and then freeze them out – with Lampard and now Arteta, his henchmen. Spain doesn’t often do that to spectacular African players in the La Liga. Why England?

    Hopefully, Saka wises up soon. We once romanced Lookman when he was the beautiful bride at Everton. Now, his value has dropped and he’s not so much that beautiful bride again. Saka, wise up while you’re still in the market!!
