Seagulls Agree Record Webster Deal And Send Clarke To Derby

Brighton have agreed a £22m deal for Bristol City defender Adam Webster and will send summer signing Matt Clarke on loan to Derby.

Sky Sports report that Webster is on his way to the Amex Stadium for a medical and to discuss personal terms with the Seagulls.

The 24-year-old joined the Robins from Ipswich just over 12 months ago and helped Lee Johnson’s side finish eighth in the Championship last season.

The signing would smash Brighton’s current record transfer fee paid, which is the £17m they spent on Iranian winger Alireza Jahanbakhsh last summer. And the switch could precede Lewis Dunk potentially moving to Leicester City, who in turn may sell England’s Harry Maguire to Manchester United in a domino effect. Meanwhile, Derby are expected to complete the season-long loan signing of Seagulls centre-back Clarke. The 22-year-old only joined Brighton from Portsmouth on a four-year deal earlier this summer for an initial £3.5m, becoming Graham Potter’s first signing at the club. Potter wants the ball-playing centre-back to continue his development in the Championship for a season.
