Sissoko Sidelined For Two Weeks

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino expects Moussa Sissoko to be sidelined for the next two weeks with a groin injury. France international Sissoko sustained the problem during the second leg of Spurs’ Champions League quarter-final triumph over Manchester City last midweek and he missed Saturday’s Premier League defeat to the same opposition as a result.

Sissoko will also miss Tuesday’s league clash with Brighton at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with Pochettino confirming that he expects the 29-year-old to be out of action for around two weeks. “Moussa Sissoko is not going to be fit, maybe for the next two weeks, we hope he can recover before but I am not so optimistic,” Pochettino said.

That means Sissoko will also miss Saturday’s league clash with West Ham as well as the first leg of their Champions League semi-final tie with Ajax in North London on April 30. The tie with Ajax will be at the forefront of many Tottenham supporters’ minds, but Pochettino is not looking too far ahead and is instead focused on Tuesday’s visit of the Seagulls.

“We are not thinking of Ajax,” Pochettino added. “We showed at Manchester City that we are thinking in the today and that competition, the Premier League. “Now our energy is in Brighton. It is so clear that we have two objectives – one is to be in the top four at the end of the season and the other is to beat Ajax, but we need to go step-by-step.”
