Solskjaer reveals Sanchez interest as Inter step up bid

Alexis Sanchez could be out of Manchester United before the end of the month after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirmed there is interest in him. Having failed to get anywhere near his best since joining from Arsenal in January 2018, the United manager appeared to end any talk of the Chilean leaving during Friday’s press conference, but there seems to have been a change of heart since then.

That could be down to strong interest from Inter Milan, who appear to trying their best to get a deal done before the European transfer window closes on September 2.

On Friday Solskjaer spoke about his belief that Sanchez would come good at United – but three days on the Norwegian opened the door to the Premier League’s highest-paid player making an exit.

Reports are rife that Inter are interested in taking the forward to the San Siro, having already completed a move for United striker Romelu Lukaku earlier in the summer and the duo could soon link up in Milan.

Solskjaer refused to give too much away when quizzed about Sanchez’s future after Monday’s 1-1 draw at Wolves, but was happy to confirm there is interest in him. “Well, there’s still a couple of weeks left of the transfer window and there is a chance some clubs have shown interest in Alexis, so we’ll see what happens,” he said. “Can’t update you more than that.”

A deal will take some negotiating due to the player’s large wage demands, which are reported to total £500,000 a week.

United would have to help pay some of those wages as Inter will be unwilling to match them, while there is a chance the player himself will have to take a pay cut if he is to get his wish of a move away from Old Trafford.

Inter are hoping to take the Chilean on loan for the season with a view to a permanent move at the end of it if he impresses.

The deal could involve Inter paying United a loan fee of £3million for the season with a view to buying him for £15million if all goes well.

There is still a chance that other clubs could enter the running for his signature and there is plenty of opportunity to get a deal done. However, Inter appears to be in the box seat at this stage and a switch to the San Siro could be a good move for everyone involved.
