Southampton are reportedly trying to hijack Bayer Leverkusen’s transfer for Manchester City’s England-born Nigerian young winger Samuel Edozie.
The 19-year-old is currently training with City’s under-23s and according to German media outfit, Kicker, he was set for a move to Leverkusen for a deal worth up to six million Euros.
Edozie made his first-team debut for City in last season’s community shield, but has not played with the senior team since.
He is a regular at Premier League 2 level, scoring five times in 27 appearances over the previous two campaigns.

As well as boasting UEFA Youth League experience, Edozie has won the English title at under-23 and under-18 level while at City, since moving north from Millwall.
The England youth international was seemingly set for the Bundesliga, but transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reports that Southampton have swooped late to try and snatch a deal.
He says Leverkusen had agreed a fee with City for Edozie, but that Southampton are now joining the race and trying to hijack the move. Saints’ new head of senior recruitment is former City youth recruitment chief Joe Shields.
Born in England to an Igbo Nigerian father and an English mother, Edozie is a youth international for England.
On 2 September 2021, Edozie made his debut for the England U19s during a 2–0 victory over Italy U19s.
He began his career in the youth system at Millwall before joining Manchester City in July 2019 for a reported seven-figure fee.
After impressing in 2021–22 pre-season, Edozie made his City debut on 7 August 2021, being named in the starting lineup for the 2021 FA Community Shield.
