Steer Extends Villa Contract

Aston Villa have confirmed goalkeeper Jed Steer has signed a contract extension until the end of the 2023 campaign. The 26-year-old had been set to leave the club last season after being told he could leave on loan in August. However, Orjan Nyland suffered an injury and Steer took the opportunity with both hands to help the club climb the Championship table.

Steer made 19 appearances under Dean Smith and he helped the club record 10 consecutive wins to fly into the play-offs. The former Norwich City stopper spent part of last season in League One with Charlton Athletic and he admits it is a dream to commit his future to the Villans.

When asked if he thought he would play for Villa again last August, Steer told the club’s official YouTube channel: “If I am honest no, I was told I could go out on loan and I thought my Villa career was done. To be in this position now, I am over the moon.

“Obviously it’s great. To be at the club since 2013 and commit my future for another few years it is something I have always wanted to do. I am really happy it has happened. “Last season was brilliant, especially the last few months leading up to the play-off final. To get promoted and sign a new deal is something I have always wanted to do.”
