Gold Coast Titans have confirmed the sacking of head coach Garth Brennan with the club sat bottom of the NRL standings.
The 47-year-old took up his first senior head coaching role with the Titans in October 2017 but his time at the helm has come to an end ahead of a mid-season review on Monday.
He oversaw just 12 wins from 40 games during his 18-month stint and leaves the Queensland outfit at the foot of the NRL table, after just four victories in 2019.
“No one at this organisation, or anyone involved in rugby league, wanted Garth’s time as Head Coach of the Titans to end this way,” Titans Executive Chairman Dennis Watt said.
“However, the results the club has achieved on the field this season have not met expectations, and the team’s performance in recent weeks has fallen to a level that is unacceptable to the Board, our Members, fans, sponsors and partners.
“Unfortunately, that has left the club in a situation where Garth remaining in the position of Head Coach has become untenable.”
Reports claimed last week that Titans were one of two NRL clubs to be considering a move for St Helens head coach Justin Holbrook.
The Australian looks set to lead the Super League side to the League Leaders’ Shield this season and they are heavily fancied to win the Grand Final too.
In the meantime, Titans have confirmed assistant coaches Craig Hodges and Luke Burt will take over as interim coaches for the rest of the 2019 season.
Watt added: “A replacement Head Coach to be decided upon at a later date.”
