LLobi stars and Super Eagles B Striker Sikiru Alimi who netted a brace in the 2-0 win against the Hawks of Togo at the Agege Stadium Lagos on Saturday, has attributed the team’s failure to score more goals in that CHAN 2020 qualifying second leg match to ill-luck, Completesports.com reports.
The Eagles lost the first leg in Lome 4-1 and needed to win the reverse fixture with at least three goals without conceding, but they could only win 2-0 courtesy of a brace from Alimi.
The 2-0 win in Lagos saw the Imama Amapakabo’s team lose 4-3 on aggregate, thus failes to book a spot at CHAN 2020 finals.
“It’s quite unfortunate thar we couldn’t make it to CHAN 2020, though we gave our all in both games. I think we got our tactics right, but we were just unlucky,” Alimi told Completesports.com.
The striker scored four goals for the Super Eagles B in 2019, but he regrets the team’s failure to secure a berth at Cameroon 2020 African Nations Championship finals – a bigger stage he would have used to aspire for invitation to Gernot Rohr’s main team.
Alimi added: “Yes, it was a great feeling all through [scoring four goals], but so sad they didn’t count in the end. Scoring goals alone isn’t enough reason to be called up to the Senior national team, but if the coach sees other qualities, then why not?”
Asked whether or not he’ll stay with Lobi stars for the new season, Alimi said: “I’m a player of Lobi stars for now, and hopefully, will resume after the national assignment, I will just take every game as they come, and continue to help my club achieve things.”

Please for God sake! On behalf of all Nigerians; we don’t want any Super Eagles B player in the main Super Eagles. Thank you.
You weren’t unlucky, you all are useless bunch of players with zero motivation. Stay well away from the real Super Eagles.
One thing that beats my imagination is the fact that you guys are well older than the real super eagles but still you struggled against togo.
Hahaha lolx ok he said that they get the tactics right while IMAMA said that they didn’t get it who will we believe now, this people are joking with us,but no wahala
This is a reality check for those who said they can’t celebrate Afcon bronze. Which one is better – Afcon bronze or failure to qualify for Afcon? Two consecutive times we were absent from Afcon. Now, under another local coach, instead of going to CHAN, we are going to KAFANCHAN to eat TUWO SHINKAFA and wash it down with KUNU. Can you imagine where our football would be now if we had not qualified for the 2018 world cup and Afcon 2019? Makes me shudder to think about it!
