Super Eagles Look To Extend Black Stars’ Winless Run

Nigeria’s Super Eagles and Black Stars of Ghana will rekindle their rivalry when the two West African giants clash at Stade de Marrakech in Morocco on Friday.

This will be the first meeting between the two teams since the Qatar 2022 World Cup qualifiers.

Under the guidance of returnee coach Otto Addo, the Black Stars pipped the Eagles to the World Cup ticket.

Both the Super Eagles and the Black Stars will go into the tie on the back of contrasting forms.

In their last five games, heading into today’s game, the Eagles have won four and lost just one.

The loss came in the final of the Africa Cup of Nations against hosts Côte d’Ivoire, who came from a goal down to win 2-1.

On their part, the Black Stars have failed to any of their last five games, recording two defeats and three draws.

The last time the Black Stars recorded a win was 17 November 2023 in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, when they edged Madagascar 1-0 in their opening group game.

Addo now has to turn things around as the four-time AFCON champions look to end their five-game winless streak as they face their eternal rivals.

Meanwhile, the two teams will miss a couple of players going into today’s clash.

For the Eagles, they will be without Victor Osimhen, Taiwo Awoniyi, Tyronne Ebuehi, Ola Aina, Zaidu Sanusi and William Troost-Ekong.

Addo will be without the services of star forward Mohammed Kudus, Thomas Partey and Inaki Williams.

WITH RIGHT PLAYERS SELECTION WITHOUT QUOTA SYSTEM/SENTIMENT FROM COACH FINIDI. THEN SUPER EAGLE WILL THRIVE AHEAD OF GHANA.
But I doubt it because 98% of indigenous/local coaches are highly sentimental/Favourism in selecting players.
    FOR INSTANCE:
** Christian chukwu always favour OLOFINJANA ahead of OBODO, AYILA
** AMODU SHUAIBU always favour AIYEGBENI ahead of UTAKA, OBAFEMI-MARTINS
** KESHI used sentiment to include CHIDOGIE -AGBIM, GABRIEL-RUEBEN into 2014 world cup squad
** ONIGBINDE also used sentiment to include uninforme ADEPOJU & OPABUNMI into 2002 world cup squad
** EQUAVOEN used sentiment to invite unfit ONAZI into Qatar W/C qualify against Ghana in order to PACIFY some group of people.
NOW IT IS FINIDI’s TURN. WE ARE WAITING FOR HIM HOW HE IS GOING TO CARRY OUT HIS OWN SENTIMENT BETWEEN “DESSERS & SADIQ”.

If you’re a coach, if you start a Dessers who’s been of the team for a long time over a player who featured in a tournament just recently?

    433. Dessers is in form but again sodiq who has not given us anything is starting. This guy really has a god father in nff. Or the quota system.

We are just wasting away desser.

    433. Well I hope ajayi and bassey will do a good job at the back.

Kolawole will likely be subbed in later. He has to make an impression in these 2 games against Ghana and Mali. Otherwise, he may not get another chance.
