Super Eagles Players Know What Is At Stake Against Ghana –Finidi

Super Eagles interim coach Finidi George has said his players know what is at stake in Friday’s friendly game against Ghana’s Black Stars.

“The team is prepared, they know what is at stake that rivalry between Nigeria and Ghana is always there and that is an extra motivation for the players,” Finidi said after the team’s final training session on Thursday.

“We are good to go, players are ready they know what is at stake we just want to have a good game and hopefully we will win.”

On the tactical approach to the game, the former Nigeria international said:”We are not changing much (tactics), just add a little bit of few elements that we think would help the players.

“We will be very tactical and see how we can win the ball as quick as possible.”

After Friday’s game against Ghana, the Eagles will take on Mali in another friendly game billed for Tuesday 26 March.

  • Really we are going back to a formation that’s not helping us especially with these crop of players we have..

I think a 352 will do us good. A three man defense is what is good for the types of defenders we have.

Ademola has struggled playing from the wings for us.

Dessers and ademola upfront. Or dessers and iheanacho. Ademola thrives best playing as a second striker not as winger. He was played that was at afcon.

Midfield: iwobi playing behind these two. Ndidi and onyeka playing deep in the midfield. Iwobi can also sit on the bench so that we can see ndidi in that role with alhasan and onyeka playing deep in midfield.

Moses Simon and Collins completing the 5 in the middle. They play as full backs.onyemechi may also replace Collins in this set up

Defense: ajayi omerou and bassey as three in the defence.

Why I prefer three man defence. We have seen the best of bassey and ajayi in a three man defense. Omerou is also aging. He will get the cover in a three man defence.

We used to concede cheap goals using 433 or 442.

I hope we can learn use pattern that suits the players we have

  • I see why the rivalry exists

    Ghana wins: 25
    Nigeria wins: 12
    Draws: 19

Finidi cannot afford to lose to Ghana. Spineless falconets is making Ghana a bogey team

    • Are you now seeing? You are late. You are our daily bread…lol

      • John-1 1 month ago

You earned the bragging right. 25 against 12 is way too much. The only era that Ghana didn’t dominate Nigeria was throughout Austin Jay-Jay Okocha era.

Falconets just played rubbish and lost to Ghana, I hope Super Eagles don’t misbehave tomorrow. Go there and play the game like its a world cup final. That’s how Ghanaians see games against Nigeria.

If una like, mek una go there go dey show hairstyle and tattoo, una go know why Ghana is far superior in terms of head-to-head.

    Good luck to Finidi

  • We have beaten you more than any country in the world. Not even Brazil, Germany, Argentina, England etc have beaten you more. We even beat you with 10 men for almost 2/3 of the game in 2008 with all the stars you had. Go and ask Vincent, shehu,Martins, yobo, kanu, micheal etc. This is one of your best teams of all time. If you want to go into the 60s,70s,80s etc, pls talk to the legendry Odegbami, he will tell you what the black stars of ghana are made of

    • Does Ghana play basketball? Certainly they don’t qualify for Afrobasket both men and women.what sports can you say Ghana is a contender.Since the era of Azuma Nelson nothing is heard about Ghana in boxing.

      • Boss, take your basketball. Who is talking about basketball here? Are you African champions or world champions in basketball?

U don’t watched world boxing then

Richard commeny fought Loma and lost but he was a world champion at 135

Isaac NEHO DOGHOE won the WBO junior featherweight in 2018 and lost to NAVARAATTEE  of Mexico

Joshua clottey held the IBF welterweight champion in 2008 to 2019 and sold out Texas arena with his mega fight against PAC-MAN!!

Joseph Agbeko is a two time bantamweight champion on two occasions having the title in 2007 and 2011!!

Which Nigerian boxer is a worked champion now? Nobody

Ghana is African GREATEST BOXING NATION OF ALL TIME!

        Aj isn’t fighting for Nigeria

  • Good one from Ghana under 20. Funny falconet had to lose that match. It goes to show brainless local coaches we have.

For Yaw and other Ghanaians, beating Nigeria has not really added anything to you in football.

You have a shameful outing at afcon in the past two editions now. You need to correct that.

Nigerians should not get into boasting with Ghana. Overall football success records in Africa, Ghana is no where to be found.

Today’s game is just a friendly to me. Let’s use that to prepare and build on afcon. Let Ghana continue to boast about beating Nigeria when their football is nothing to write home again

    • Which overall football success are you talking about? How many times have you won the afcon and what is your record in the world cup? Stop running your mouth! You are our daily bread. Simple!

U want us to bring it to u now?

Stop talking rubbish @Self made about Finidi and his era as a footballer. Ghana played draw with Nigeria right inside Ghana in 1994. Ghana also drew 0-0 in Ghana and collected 3-0 in Port Harcourt in 2001to qualify for the world cup in 2002 (Korea-Japan.) Then in 2002 Nigeria beat Ghana 1-0 in Afcon quaternary final. Ghana only beat Nigeria 2-1 when Ghana hosted Afcon and Finidi wasn’t playing then. Even in that Game Nigeria outplayed Ghana and as always played Gbajue football, kicking and poking Nigerian players eyes while the referee looked the other way because Ghana wanted to host and win at all cost, just as they kicked our girls in ordinay Gold medal African games match at home and the referee allowed Ghana kenkey women to get awsy with attrocious play.. Anytime Ghana wants to play Nigeria, in any sports, especially football they want to kill or die on the field to prove Nigeria is not better than them but the world rankings in both football and the African games medal table shows Nigeria is far superior to Ghana in all sports.

Lol so George finidi wasn’t part of that Nigerian 1992 squad that lost to Ghana in Senegal?

Ghana defeated Nigeria in Senegal 92 and finidi George was part of that squad that lost to Ghana buddy

Go back and read your history again and we’ll

Lol so George finidi wasn’t part of that Nigerian 1992 squad that lost to Ghana in Senegal?

Ghana defeated Nigeria in Senegal 92 and finidi George was part of that squad that lost to Ghana buddy

Go back and read your history again and we’ll

Finidi George was subbed in the 67th for FRIDAY EKPO and tho I was a kid, I watched that match

All the Nigerian legends has collected lol

  • I watched the final match between Falconets and Ghana queens.I will say congratulations to them. They won.Not really because they are better but for two events.First, we lost our first choice keeper Omilana to injury and the keeper that came in was fidgety. She allowed a short from outside the box beat her to her far secondly, Danjuma replaced his highly effective centre back who have kept the scorer(Abdulai) quiet all night as she was on a yellow card. The new girl allowed the space for Abdulai to shoot from outside the box and score.

I think Ghana are good in athletics too particularly the sprints. We won the 4 by 100 by milliseconds against them. They won in volleyball too.But for the all African games, it will s not about the battle, it is about the war and the medals table reflect that.

I think the bigger challenge would be to reflect such performance at the world stage instead of just been content in beating Nigeria and that is all that matters. You will see, their athletes will not make much impact either at the Olympics or U 20 female world cup. But I pray they do. We cannot also discount the home advantage factor.

I was also pleasantly surprised by the emergence of Liberia in the sprints. They did very well in the relays for both men and women (Second and third positions) and it is only a matter of time before they challenge Nigeria, Same with Burkina Faso in the triple Jump and high jump
