Former Nigeria international Desire Oparanozie has clamoured for a more qualified coach for the Super Falcons, completesports,com reports.
Super Falcons Set Unwanted World Cup Qualification Record
The Super Falcons’ hopes of qualifying for next year’s women’s World Cup was dashed after they lost 2-1 to South Africa in the play-in tie on Thursday.
Thembi Kgatlana and Refiloe Jane put Banyana 2-0 ahead in the second half before Christy Ucheibe scored late in stoppage time from the penalty spot which was not enough.
For the first time the Super Falcons will not be at the women’s Cup since making their debut at the maiden edition in 1991 in China.
“It was a disappointing result for the Super Falcons,” Oparanozie said on Brila FM. “The South Africans put up a good game for 90 minutes, I wished the Super Falcons players started the game the way they ended it because it was evident that they only react to situations.
“Moving forward I think right now the team needs fresh legs, young players and also the team needs a qualified custodian.”
South Africa and Ghana will now proceed to the Intercontinental playoffs where they will face other teams from other confederations for a place at the 2027 FIFA women’s World Cup in Brazil.

The quartet of Morocco, Algeria, Malawi and Cameroon have already qualified automatically thanks to their quarterfinal wins at the WAFCON.
Super Falcons Poor WAFCON Campaign
The Super Falcons campaign at this year’s WAFCON could be described as their worst in the history of the competition.
The team got off to a shock start following a 3-2 defeat to debutants Malawi before edging out Zambia 1-0 to get back on track.
In their final group fixture against Egypt, the Super Falcons recorded their highest goal margin in the competition as they ran out 6-2 winners.
But in the quarterfinals against Cameroon, they lost 1-0, thereby failing to reach the semifinal the WAFCON since the inaugural edition in 1998.

We just have bunch of unserious and empty people at helm of our football affairs.
The Team needs a well qualified coach and younger players. Most of the players should retire from the National Team now.

Judging from yesterday’s match, it was evident that we started sluggishly and only began to react after the damage has been done, similar to the game against Malawi.
The coach and his technical crew should throw in the towel now and lets have new ideas and football has gone beyond kick and follow.
There was no technical input for the team to take her chances, a well balanced team supported from the side lines by the technical crew will have won that match right from the first half.
The South Africans took advantage of our aging defense and slow pace to winning the second balls.
Finally the changes made did not help matters and when they were made, it was already too late.
The NFF should learn to reward teams immediately a tournament is played not days to a new tournament as this is a distraction to both players and technical crew.
All the same, Nigeria needs a new team and crew.
The super falcons need a qualified coach, while the NFF needs a new competent president!
