Two-time FIFA Women’s World Cup winners and current Olympic champions Germany beat African champions, the Super Falcons of Nigeria, 3-0 in Saturday’s Round of 16 clash of France 2019 at the Stade des Alpes, Gronoble, Completesports.com reports.
It was spirited early exchanges by both sides in the first 10 minutes, but it was Germany that came closest to scoring in the 6th minute but Osinachi Ohale hurled her body in the path of the goal-bound ball to deny Lina Magull.
Germany captain Alexandra Popp netted the curtain-raiser in the 20th minute, nodding home off a corner kick. Japanese referee, Yamashita Yoshimi, consulted the VAR to verify the goal.
Germany won a penalty in the 25th minute after Evelyn Nwabuoku caught the leg of Magull as she miskicked in an attempt to frantically make a clearance. The referee made the penalty call after again consulting the VAR.
Sara Daebritz beat Chiamaka Nnadozie from the spot kick to double Germany’s lead in the 27th minute.
Desire Oparanozie could only earn a corner in the 45th in attempting to connect a hopeful pass from the effervescent Francisca Ordega.
And just before Yamashita Yoshimi whistled for the recess, she had to consult the VAR to confirm that German player hadn’t handled the ball inside the box while under close challenge by Uchenna Kanu.
Rasheedat Ajibade replaced Nwabuoku in the 46th minute, and soon contrived a brilliant chance for the Super Falcons.
But Oparanonzie missed that remarkable 49th minute scoring chance after Ajibade ran the German defence ragged on the left before crossing brilliantly to the captain.
Super Falcons, with quite a massive support from the Stade des Alpes spectators, fought resiliently as the second period wore on, but a third German goal killed their comeback hopes.
Chinaza Uchendu replaced the injured Chinwendu Ihezuo in the 74th minute
Lea Schueller pounced on poor communication in Nigeria defence to score Germany’s third goal in the 82nd minute
Alice Ogebe replaced Uchenna KANU in the 84th minute as Thomas Dennerby’s ladies battled on to avoid conceding more goals.

You did not see the natch. Apkeyi saved the day, particularly in the first half.
I’m just watching the replay of Nigeria vs Germany, oh my word. Nigeria were robbed again.
It is very cleared in this tournament world is not for Africans. Nigeria fans were singing ojoro in the stadium. Meaning, we were robbed.
These white people are very smart. They used an Asian referee to finished the job for them. In one word, I enjoyed myself with the Super Falcons at this year world cup. They didn’t disappointed me. They played their hearts against Germany. Coach Dennerby have tried. He deserves to be in charge of the team for a while.
The 1st goal of Germany was offside while the second goal wasn’t a penalty. They confirmed it on TV. Shame on FIFA.
I repeat, that place called overseas is not meant for Africans. Even, Akon testified to that. Come home and do something.
They are just using Africans as training materials at the world cup. I don’t think we Africans can win anything at the global stage anymore.
The Atlanta 96 we won in the USA was a luck. They almost ruined the joy for Nigeria by the referee. Given a penalty against Taribo West.
Meanwhile, I agreed with those who said we should be playing in Afcon tournament not at the world cup anymore because is not for Africa.
CAF needs to do much more to improve Afcon tournament. This is us. This is where we belong to. I said my own. God bless Nigeria!!!
Hehehehe…excuses upon excuses.
No be only offside…Na inside out.
You will tell me if the German player that was offside touched the ball.
The penalty was spot on too….go and watch highlights of Thailand vs Chile, France vs Norway and Uruguay vs Japan and stop giving nonsense excuses.
Read the laws of the game, they won’t. LMAO.
After so much preparations, camping, tournaments etc…all your tin god Denerby could give us was a team that can only score one world cup goal in 4 matches and concede a whooping 7 goals even with their ultra defensive style of play. Lolz
Would u have said this same thing if it were rohr that lost that match???????? @omo9Ja… Why are u such a hypocrite??
Omo9ja i tire o, it was obvious because the first and second goal ought not to be, VAR won make football perfect as if na robot they play
Well, the Super Falcons are out and I am hugely disappointed!
A very poor world cup by all standards. Poor brand of football, poor goal scoring initiatives, poor defensive set up, dire minefield.
Dennerby should be shown the door without a minute hesitation!
They reached the second round for what purpose? Only to be humiliated and humbled by a very average Germany.
Rubbish.
Tough talking with no results equals nonsense.
Omolaja ride on , I buy ur comments 100%, I thought I was d only one with this conviction. If u check d VAR replay. How come it only showed d 1st corner kick from just d back of d post angle? D Germany lady was in offside position, also d penalty given for d 2nd goal. wasn’t a penalty if u noticed d Nigerian defender cleared d ball 1st b4 a slight touch collision that d German exaggerated. I also believe if it was a Nigerian that blocked d ball in d 18yard box against d Germans they will be given their penalty. Rules or no rules this things can be manipulated to make or destroy. I m really proud of super falcons and their coach.. We just need better goal scoring creativity. Pls come home with honour..
D German lady that blocked d ball with her hand in 18yards box I mean
Hehehehe…..it’s obvious many people need to be schooled on the laws of the game. This is the information age, yet many don’t know what amounts to an offside or a penalty.
They should come home, did their best. As a matter of fact, they were on life support from the get go.
