France midfielder Aurélien Tchouaméni believes Senegal possess the quality and courage to make a deep run at the World Cup 2026.
Recall that the African champions lost 3-1 to France at MetLife Stadium in their Group I opener.
Despite the loss, Tchouaméni, who anchored France’s midfield with three tackles and two interceptions, was highly complimentary of the “Lions of Teranga.”

He acknowledged that Senegal gave the 2022 World Cup finalists a formidable test.
Tchouaméni, in a chat with Hoppen Media, stated that if Senegal maintains the same level of discipline and ambition shown in the first hour of the match, they will be a force to be reckoned with in the rest of their group stage games.
“Yes and no. Yes, because you see them on TV all the time. They’re the African champions; you know they have a great team with great players,” Tchouameni told Hoppen Media in an interview.
“But it’s when you actually play against them that you really realise it even more.

“Like I said, they’re the African champions, and frankly, they’re a great team. I think they’ll do their thing in the tournament,” said Tchouameni.
Following their opening victory, Les Bleus continue their group stage campaign against Iraq as they look to build momentum toward the knockout rounds.
The African champions will aim to regroup in Group I against Norway in matchday two.
