Team Sky In Talks Over Colombian Sponsorship

Team Sky is reportedly in talks with the Colombian president over possible sponsorship by an oil and gas firm from the country.

La Gazzetta dello Sport report that Team Sky supremo Sir Dave Brailsford met Colombian president Ivan Duque and the head of the sport ministry Ernesto Lucena to discuss a potential sponsorship by Ecopetrol.

Team Sky’s parent company Comcast is due to pull its sponsorship of the successful WorldTour team at the end of 2019, leaving team principal Brailsford less than a year to secure the squad’s future.

Brailsford has signed two talented Colombian riders to his powerful line-up in the past 18 months and saw Egan Bernal make a superb debut at the Tour de France last year.

Ecopetrol is one of the big four oil companies in Latin America and ranks among the top 25 in the world.
