Huddersfield have reportedly renewed their interest in Brentford forward Neal Maupay and could make a move this summer. The Terriers are preparing for life back in the Championship next season and one area they particularly need to address is up front as they have only found the back of the net 19 times in their 34 Premier League games to date this term.

Jan Siewert’s side were heavily linked with making a move for Brentford frontman Maupay during the January transfer window and it appears they could be set to renew their interest. Maupay has scored 26 goals and provided seven assists in 46 appearances for Brentford to date this term, but with the Bees out of the running for a play-off place he could be open to a move elsewhere.
It appears Huddersfield want to partner Maupay up front with Karlan Grant, who has impressed since moving to the John Smith’s Stadium in January, as they are keen to secure an immediate return to the Premier League next season.
However, the likes of Aston Villa, who are managed by Maupay’s former boss at Brentford Dean Smith, and Middlesbrough have also been linked with the 22-year-old and both of those sides are still in the hunt to earn promotion to the top flight this season. Brentford paid £1.6million to secure the services of Maupay from Saint Etienne in 2017 but will be able to command a significantly larger fee should they opt to cash in during the summer.
