Former Super Eagles midfielder, Austine Okocha has predicted that there will be plenty of errors that will be committed at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
He made this known on the backdrop of claims made by the Algeria Football Federation, who requested a replay of the Desert Foxes 2022 World Cup Playoffs return leg against the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon, citing referees’ errors in officiating.
According to the Algeria FA, Gambia referee, Bakary Gassama made a mistake in ruling out Algeria’s first goal which was supposed to stand.
Algeria’s two goals were cancelled by the Gambia Referee in the return fixture which took place in Blida, Algeria.
However, in a chat with L-Frii, the former PSG star stated that there will be mistakes at the World Cup in Qatar too.
A coach has no right to talk about the mistakes of a referee. There is a structure capable of seeing better than us and sanctioning. The VAR has challenged the referee, which means that there is a fault. What are we talking about here? Where is the referee’s error?” Okocha, who was a member of the Super Eagles squad that won the 1994 AFCON title made this known with L-Frii.
“We all watched that same game. We saw the offsides, the heads accompanied by the hands. Maradona called it the hand of God. Nowadays, the VAR is the laser that sanctions.”
“Organize a symposium and debate on all the things that undermine African football, but not at the dawn of the competitions!
“The real mistakes made on purpose await you at the World Cup in Qatar; where will you file your complaints?”
