  • Nothing is working in the country, this is the most useless set of government, thats why we need to rely on our foreign bred for any success.
A friend of mine is the one in charge of the sport ministry of one state in South West, (my state), he expressed his frustration when they are mobilizing for national sport festivals, we have to sort money from some dignitaries in the state, I paid part of the team training allowance.
It’s such a bad situation, no one to annex the huge raw talents we have on ground.
Don’t expect anything spectacular from the Olympics contingent

It is funny that many Nigerians are surprised and disappointed in the many of your sports men bowing out of the Tokyo2020 Olympics. So you really think we were contenders in Table tennis, badminton, gymnastics, rowing etc. If you have been following Nigeria sports especially in Olympics and our athlete current performance, you will know the sports that we are medal contenders.

Olympics is not All African games, and counties that scoop lots of medals have planned and prepared for it at least 20 years before. They put the right infrastructure and coaching and hunt for talents from the grass root at their young ages and give them the world class training they need to become world champions. It is not by magic or wishing, it is a deliberate and visionary leadership in sports that can deliver such dividends. And sadly we don’t have it as at now.

So any current Nigerian Sports man, who qualified for the Olympics should regarded as an achiever regardless of where the bow out. This is because they were able to do this against all odds. So I celebrate all that are flying our flags currently in Tokyo, whether they are still in contention or out, you all are champions. It is only countries that have sown quality seeds in sports development that are qualified to reap quality harvest. This is God’s principle.

For those that are not aware, the events that we MAY win medals this Olympics includes:
Female wrestling, Women 100m, 200m Sprint, Long Jump and women hurdle and probably women 100m Relay. Others that could spring surprises include basketball and men’s Table tennis, but these surprises are still largely unlikely.

In all let’s reduce our expectations and still celebrate these Sports men and women who against all odds qualified and chose to represent a country like Nigeria. Many of their
Nigerian colleagues as you will notice are representing other countries that are serious with their sports development and seeing the results on the medal table.

Nice comment but I will modify the list down to Female wrestling, weight lifting, men basketball, female long jump, female 110m hurdles and maybe Blessing Okagbare 100m if she can get serious with the Olympics for once. As for the men tennis they’re another set of clowns watch how they’ll be whipped one by one. Our female basketball group is just into some hot group and Nneka wasn’t cleared so it will be hard for them to compete. I believe we have sure medals at this Olympics from Ese Brume and Esther Adekuroye the rest will try to spring surprises for me.
