Toprak Injury Adds To Werder Woe

Werder Bremen could be without defender Omer Toprak after he picked up an injury during the side’s 3-2 Bundesliga defeat at Hoffenheim on Saturday.

The 30-year-old Turkey international centre-back only joined Werder from Borussia Dortmund on a season-long loan earlier this month, but he was forced off after just 17 minutes and already looks a doubt for next week’s clash against FC Augsburg.

Afterwards, coach Florian Kohfeldt said: “I’ve got the feeling that they could be hurt getting off the bus at the moment. We’re at our limit injury-wise. Our squad is strong, but what we can’t absorb is losing three of our back four.”

Werder looked like snatching a point thanks to Yuya Osako’s 81st minute equaliser only for Pavel Kaderabek to grab the winner for Hoffenheim three minutes from time.

Kohfeldt added: “I’ll say it again. We’re on the right track. We had a strong game away from home, but in the end, we’ve conceded two goals from set pieces and that just can’t happen. “The team showed their morale, effort and fight but a lot of things are going against us at the moment.”
