Trabzonspor President Ertuğrul Doğan has once again reiterated the club’s desire to keep Paul Onuachu.
The Nigeria international has been widely linked to a lucrative transfer to Saudi Arabia
There are further speculations that Onuachu could be sold by the Turkish Super Lig club following the arrival of Guinea-Bissau international Franculino Djú from Danish outfit FC Midtylland.

Doğan however declared that the Black Sea Storm won’t entertain any offer for the forward.
Doğan Confirms Onuachu Stay
“There is no question of Paul Onuachu leaving. He is the league’s top scorer; such a situation is out of the question,” Doğan was quoted by marasbugun.com.tr.
The 32-year-old was joint-top scorer in the Turkish Super Lig last season with Istanbul Başakşehir’s Shomodruv. They scored 22 goals each.
He is however yet to register a goal in five appearances across all competitions this season.

The arrival of Salah compounded Onuachu’s goalscoring problems…
In the game they lost to Ahmed FC,I realised Salah wasn’t ready to cross for Onuachu to score despite the striker well positioned.Instead Salah would go for goal himself,he is desperate to be the main man.
Onuachu will continue to struggle with more investments in the Turkish league as we have noticed this season..
Teams are stronger with more investment.Because of that,it will get tighter and difficult to score unlike previous seasons when it was mostly Turkish players and average foreign professionals.
But what were Trabzonspor management and technical crew thinking when they signed Salah and refuse to sell Onuachu. I believe they knew Salahs profile and how he plays, as well as how Onuachu plays. Any amateur coach or even roadside commentator that has watched those two players should know that they cannot play together. Onuachu depends on service from the wings while Salah prefers to cut in and shoot 99% of the time. He’s successfully scored multitude of goals and established his identity playing this way, hence would not be expected to change that style at his present age and stature. The clubs management have done Onuachu a great disservice by refusing to let him go after signing Salah. They should have cashed in on his achievement as the leagues top scorer last season, and sold him to the Saudi club that came for him. As things stand now, the poor guys value is going to plummet sharply. Hopefully they find a way out for him.
@Aleks,true,selling Onuachu would have been a win win for Trabzonspor because it improves funding as well squad space.Just like you noted,Onuachu benefits from crosses which incidentally,contributed to a large number of his goals both in Belgium and Turkey respectively.
Signing a player like Salah has done him in…It means,he will no longer receive crosses from the right,even when Salah cuts in he will rather shoot than pass to Onuachu.I have noticed that trend in the two Trabzonspors games I have seen so far this season.

Let us tell onu to also hustle small, the club had a good vision and won’t let one way traffic player coner them. What if any of those that use to serve him accurate ball injure, that simply means the club is in trouble.

He is tearing up the tolotolos with goals. In 5 matches, he has thumped in 6 goals, and registered 2 assists. It would have been 7 goals, but one of the goals was denied him by a defender’s outstretched leg who put the ball in his own yawning net. If not, Nacho would have had open net.
He might end up as highest goal scorer this season.

Yes, he’s playing in a lower tolotolo league. But this goal scoring thing can be funny. If you score regularly, it becomes second nature. That is why someone like Emilio Nsue of Equitorial Guinea, at the age of 33, who played in Spain’s lower league, ended up as the top scorer in the 2023 Afcon. He scored some fantastic goals on his way to that award.
When you look closer at the goals Nacho scored, these are not fluke, accidental goals. He shoots with intelligence, aiming for areas outside the goalie’s reach, and his technique is impeccable. And he looks like he’s lost a lot of weight. I think Nacho is almost back to his best.
When you’re good, you’re good. Where you’re playing does not matter that much.
Again, look at our 1994 squad, the real Super Eagles. How many of them played in big clubs? Some of them were playing in lower leagues. Yet, that is arguably the strongest team to come out of Africa, a team that was ranked 5th in the world by FIFA.

Overhyping same set of players that have negatively impacted the mentality and psyche of the national team.
Now, they are finding soft spot for their family members who were shipped out of top league clubs. Onuachu that can’t hold his own in the Turkish league, failed in top competitions and league like the Champions league and the EPL.
Iheanacho was declared surplus by Leicester, dumped by Celtics, and now he is doing yanga in the second division ..
I hope Chelle is wise enough to know that recent failures can be traced to the recycling of these feeble minded and one dimensional players who rely on bribes and godfatherism for invitation.

Abi is it because he is of Igbo extraction? The irrational hatred of players who are not from your tribe needs to stop for us to move forward. If our best players are all Igbo, all well and good. If they win, Nigeria wins.
Iheanacho that I saw is fit and firing on all cylinders. Everyone knows that when it comes to finishing, he’s one of the most clinical strikers we have at the moment. His technique is the best among our strikers. Perhaps Akor comes close. So if he is fit and in form, I will have no issues if Chelle calls him up. Well, perhaps the only issue is his age. It can be argued that we should be rebuilding with younger players, but hey, if he can still get us goals, why not? If he was fit and in form and on the pitch in that game against DRC, who knows? We might have featured in the mundial. Chelle will surely look at him, because he’s a thorough coach. He might end up selecting him, he might not. But that is his call, not yours!
