Troost-Ekong: Ighalo Influenced My Decision To Join Watford

William Troost-Ekong says his former international teammate Odion Ighalo played a crucial role in his decision to link up with Sky Bet Championship club Watford, reports Completesports.com.

Troost-Ekong moved to Watford on Tuesday from Serie A club Udinese and penned a five- year contract with Vladimir Ivic’s team for an undisclosed amount.

The 27-year-old joined compatriots Isaac Success and Tom Dele-Bashiru in Hertfordshire and has been handed the No.5 jersey.

Ighalo is a cult figure at Watford having spent four years at the club following his move from LaLiga club Granada in 2014.

“Ighalo used to be my roommate. I spoke to Odion last week. He only had good things to say about the club. He’s a great guy, a fantastic player and like a big brother for me,” Troost-Ekong told the club website.

Troost-Ekong is expected to play a crucial role in the team’s return to the Premier League.

Hoping Isaac Success comes out of injury sooner and help this Watford side back to the premiership.

A demotion to the championship means losing major players who wouldn’t want to go down with the team, and a platform for Success to stamp his authority in the team.

Tom Dele Bashiru is a bit part player for the team so far, hope he works his way up in the team as the season progresses.Troost is expected to be a regular in the team hence the number 5 he got, expected to lead them from the back to achieve or accomplish a feat at the end of the season.

I wish the three Nigerians a good season and a quick promotion back to the premiership.Troost especially must play in his dream premiership next season at least.A Nigerian captain shouldn’t play at a lower division it’s demeaning.

  • Look for me the English Championship is on par( if not stronger than) with some Premier Leagues in Europe. I.e. Belgian League, Swedish Finish Norwegian, Swiss Etc.

And Watford were the stronger of the relegated teams last season and the strongest on paper than all teams in the championship currently as they managed to retain some key players need only mention Troy Deeney and Ismaila Sarr ben foster Tom Cleverly now with Ekong the mission is simple get Watford back to the Prem League. I see them back in the English Prem next season so yeah good move.

P.s. I really hope they manage to keep hold of Troy Deneey and Ismaila Sarr
