Tuchel Enters Premier League History Book After Southampton vs Chelsea Draw

Thomas Tuchel’s unbeaten reign as Chelsea boss continued as the Blues came from a goal down to force a 1-1 draw at Southampton in Saturday’s Premier League game.

Tuchel is now the 16th manager in Premier League history to avoid defeat in his first six games in the competition (W4 D2) and the first since Maurizio Sarri in September 2018, also with the Blues.

The out-of-form Southampton side dominated at St Mary’s with Chelsea claiming 72% possession, but Tuchel’s men were not as incisive as they would have liked.

The draw means Chelsea remain in fourth position on 43 points.

Southampton took the lead against the run of play, through Liverpool on loan forward Minamino who provided a brilliant, cool finish to stun Chelsea.

Chelsea were lucky that N’Golo Kante avoided any card at all for a nasty-looking challenge when he stepped on Moussa Djenepo.

Tammy Abraham was withdrawn by Chelsea at half-time, with Callum Hudson-Odoi coming off the bench.

Chelsea then leveled the score in the 54th minute thanks to Mason Mount who converted from the penalty spot after he was fouled.

Southampton were almost back in front 15 minutes later, but Jannik Vestergaard’s looping header from a corner cannoned off the top of the crossbar.
