U-17 AFCON: Golden Eaglets Battle Guinea For Final Ticket

Nigeria’s Golden Eaglets will battle Guinea today (Wednesday ) at the National Stadium, Dar es Salaam for a place in the final of the Africa U -17 Cup of Nations in Tanzania, reports Completesports.com.

To get to the semi-final stage of the competition, the Golden Eaglets finished top of Group A with seven points from three games.

Manu Garba’s young lads defeated hosts Tanzania 5-4 in the competition’s opening game, pip Angola 1-0 in the second and held Uganda to a 1-1 draw in their last group game.

The Guineans on the other hand finished in second position in Group B behind Cameroon with six points with wins against Senegal and Morocco.

Garba is most likely to start with his regular squad, meaning Sunday Stephen in goal, Shedrack Tanko, and Ogaga Oduko as wingbacks, Clement Ikenna and David Ishaya at centreback, captain Samson Tijani, Mayowa Abayomi (or Fawaz Abdullahi) and Olatomi Olaniyan in the midfield.

The trio of Akinkunmi Ayobami Amoo, Olakunle Olusegun and Wisdom Ubani will lead the team’s hunt for goals.

Amoo, Tijani and Jabaar won man of the match awards in Nigeria’s three games at the group stage and alongside Wisdom have been impressive for the Golden Eaglets in this season.

Nigeria have been victorious at the continental tournament on two occasions, in 2001 and 2007, and are the record winners of the FIFA U17 World Cup (five times).

Cameroon will take on Angola in the other semi-final fixture on Wednesday at the National Stadium, Dar es Salaam.
